Wow. What an amazing show.

Raymond Massey came on from Pearl to get the show started. Got behind the kit (I think) that was pictured earlier in this thread, that is, the one from Skips. Raymond played all the drums individually to start, emphasizing the "every drum is a unique instrument" thing. Then he just took off in what I believe to be an amazing display of speed. Wow how the drums blended.

Next Gene Okamoto came on stage to speak about how Pearl makes their shells, including the HC/sms system. He then talked about the characteristics of each wood used on the Reference series and how they blend. Then Raymond came back up and discussed bearing edges and took questions, then did another short demonstration.

Next came the featured player, who's hand I had the pleasure of shaking, Will Kennedy. I'm not sure if it was the mics or the drumsor the heads, but when he started playing, I was just stunned by the warmth of the sound. He played some cool polyrythmical patterns and some funky independence stuff. After he finished, he was rightfully given a standing ovation. He then spoke about his concept of what drumming should be, an extremely soulful approach to the instrument. He then played some more.

As the finale to the show, Raymond and Will got together on stage and traded solos and grooves. I was amazed at how well they blended together. What an amazing show. After that, they gave away the door prizes by drawing tickets out of what else, a drum. A 6-or so year old girl's ticket was drawn for the finals of the whole kit giveaway. Overall, what a great show, everyone was very nice, and the drummers (and drums) were just amazing.

After listening to Will Kennedy and Raymond Massey at last nights Pearl Reference Series Clinic in Sacramento, I personally think they live up to their claims as being the most advanced acoustic drums . They looked and more importanly sounded truly amazing. You could actually hear the suttle distinction of high and low pitches from the 10" to the 16". Each individual drum had its own pronounced sweet spot. I sent off a ton of pic's from last night's clinic to HOOK, hopefully he'll be posting them soon!

I was there in Sacramento like Al I came from 3 and 1/2 hours away and it was totally awesome. The presentation was A plus and no doubt my next set will be a Reference set after I sell my BRX set..Pearl drum manufacturing is the best I have seen in my 40 years of playing drums. The cool thing is they had a movie and they showed exactly how the drums were made.I recommend highly seeing this clinic on because it is the best .Gene Okamoto and the rest of the Pearl staff was very nice and very imfomative. This probably sounds like a commercial but the drums are awesome. :D There was aprox 150 to 200 people there i was told also.

I happened to be in Sacramento on vacation a few weeks ago and wanted to stop by and get my first look at a reference kit. I was hoping to tap on them but they were stacked up ready to be sold. They were beautiful indeed. The photos do not do the Copperfire Sparkle finish, justice.

I was also surprized to see that they actually had another set with Granite Sparkle finish for sale!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cannot wait to get my Purple Craze kit some year soon.
