I'm buying a new snare.. I was hoping to get the Ultracst, but store didn't have it in stock.. So i was wondering if this Noble & Cooley drum is a good way to go? It's more expensive i know, yes..

Any experiences with it?

I've tried a Noble & Cooley snare, but I'm not exactly sure was it the cast aluminum. I loved the sound of the snare.

If you mean N&C's Alloy Classic... yes, that's the aluminum one. In my opinion, its THE finest aluminum snare made, next to a Trick.

N&C Alloy Classic's are excellent drums... never A/B'd them with a Trick, but either way you can't go wrong

The only N/C snare I've tried was the (what I believe to be) bronze version...but then again I am really unfamiliar with their products so maybe I'm looney. Either way it was fantastic!

The N&C is an amazing snare. I have the 4.75" version (I think that's the depth. I know it's not an even number, but aroung 5"). Anyway if your worried on money the Ultracast is a great snare also (very, very similar to N&C, just no diecast hoops). I thought Andy@MM had some Ultracasts marked down that were NAMM show demos. You should check with him, and if he does you should scold him for not at least letting you know (true he does have to worry about advertising, but it's a great Pearl product for a good price versus you going with the N&C so mods you should smile about this info.)

I've owned all three (N&C, UC and Trick/RPM). They are similar and all wonderful. The Pearl is the best deal, built like a swiss watch. The N&C is a bit dryer and woodier, and the Trick is the most metal/bright sounding. I really like the snares and SS tension rods on the Pearl... but no one can beat the Trick strainer. I could be happy with any of them. One caution is the N&C painted hoops will chip over time...

Great snare. I've used it on 80% of gigs I've played since I got it in 2001. I went through phases where I was "down" on it but I always come back to it. Am using the Attack Thin Skin 2 ply coated batter. Terrific sound. The N&C people - you can contact them directly if you need to (I needed a part or two over the years) and they are about the nicest, most helpful folks you'd ever hope to deal with.
