View Full Version : identification
I need som help identifying one of my kits.. itīs a black pearl kit, 22x14 bass, 12x8, 13x9 (iīm not sure about he depths of the toms), 16x16 floor, 14x5.5 steel snare.. I believe itīs from the 80īs but it could be older than that..
take a look at the (somewhat blurry, sorry for that) pic.. any help at all would be highly appreciated.. model, price as new, what I could get for it today.. the kit is in very good condition, some scrathes here and there but other than that very nice

Hard to tell from the picture but World series?
What do the badges say?

From the shape of the lugs, tom holder type, and the badge on the top tom, I'd say you have a Thunder-King kit from about 1974.
thank you gene.. the information was excellent. thatīs the kit I have.. Is it some cheap entry-"taiwan model" or is the quality better ? could you tell me anything about the wood, construction etc? what would you think it would be worth today (although I donīt have the original hardware)? once again thanks :)

I have a more recent Thunder-King PDF at Pearl that's in English. I'll post it tomorrow.

This is very interesting for me, too. I have got a kit like shown here without rack toms; just Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Stand Tom.
I bought this Kit some years ago, used of course. The owner before me changed the Bass Drum Spurs.
What wood is it made of?
Thank you in advance!

9 ply Philippine mahogany.
Please see a scan below from the 1971 catalog, in English.

Thank you, Gene!
My drums look like the ones shown in the asian catalog. The badges say "Pearl Japan" and the snare drum has got ten lugs.
I think about getting new heads to make the drums sound better.

Wow! That first kit looked very familiar!
I have black drumset pretty much like that. Exactly same sizes and hardware almost like that but it isn't Pearl. The badges and bass drum batter head just say "Thunder".
Does anybody know this brand? It's very cheap brand I suppose. The logo has drumsticks above and below of the text "Thunder".
My kit must be cheap copy of those Pearl "Thunder-King" drums.

I don't know if there's more than one brand called Thunder but I have a Thunder catalog. Guess who made Thunder? Tay-e or Taye as they call themselves now!
