I'm thinking of buying some Paiste Rude cymbals, but since I don't have a local music store that has them for me to test and because of how expensive they are, I would like some input on your opinion before I buy them. I am wanting the 20" China, 20" Power Ride, 18" Crash, and the 14" Sound Edge Hi Hats.

i dont believe you can buy a rude 20" china unless you custom order it, but the 18" china is amazing. very dark and trashy. the sound edge hi hats are ok but i still think the signature sound edge's are the best....about the same price and durability too. It sounds like you're trying to model your setup after dave lombardo, and I would caution against that because I would highly doubt you and Mr. Lombardo have the same: a) exacting music tastes, b) pocketbook. the rude series doesn't make crashes, they make crash/rides. Very pingy unless you beat the living snot out of them. the power ride is very good but very washy, not much ping at all.
hope that helps, but i wouldn't recommend buying all those very genre-specific and expensive cymbals until you're sure thats what you want to be playing. Don't regret having dumped 700 dollars on heavy metal cymbals and then decide to play light jazz.

Yeah, take into account that these cymbals fit into very little other musical situations outside of heavy rock/metal. From what ive played of the rude series, they are excellent for heavier music, but incredibly unversatile

thanks for your opinions...95% of the time I do play heavy rock/metal type music so I guess these cymbals would be the right choice except for the outrageous prices they come with.

The cheapest prices i have found them for them was www.drumsdirect.com (call them) and for the 20" Power ride, www.music123.com has everyone beat at $150.00. Nobody could touch that price.

Thanks Slipknot1.. What was your personal opinion of the cymbals since I know you toured with Joey and he has them.

I like them alot because i am so used to my Z's. He has used the same set the entire tour, never cracked any, so the durability is fine, even though he does use a very light stick. If i were to get a complete set of RUDE's tommorow for free would i replace all my Zildjians with them? Probably, would i sell my Zildjians to buy a complete set of RUDE's, most likley not. Try to find a place that has some to hear for yourself. Your ears are the final judge.

I used to have an 18" RUDE Crash/Ride along with a 20" and 22" Ride/Crash. I was never crazy about the 22 as it was a bit too low pitched for me compared to the other rides I had at the time.
The 18" was a great heavy crash. It's a bit more raw sounding, lower pitched and lacks that characteristic glassy shimmer that my other 18" Paiste crashes possessed. It's a big crash with a long decay that holds up well to heavy hitting.
My 20" Ride/Crash was similar. Again it's a raw sounding crash compared to 2002's 3000's or Signatures but it's more beefy sounding than those lines. I used it mainly as a crash when playing gigs but it was my ride for practice so I could save my 3000 Reflector Power Ride for gigs. As a ride it was a gritty, sort of 60's sounding cymbal.
Years ago I messed around with the SE Hi Hats in the store and they were nice but I prefer my Signature SE Hi Hats to the Rudes.
