Anybody out there own a ride with little or no overtones?
I prefer Sabian suggestions because most of my cymbals
are Sabian (love that company) but as always, I can't be
a brand freak since I like all three.

SUGGESTIONS, COMMENTS, OPINIONS, welcomed! :)

Oh Yeh......., Right now I own an Avedis 20 inch ride and
it has WAY TOO MUCH overtone to it. I'm sure Zildjian makes
a good overtone free ride though. Help please.

You are probably looking for a dry model like the HH Raw bell mentioned above, however if that ride isn't dry enough for you, or bright enough for you, you will probably end up looking at AAX and AA models, the cymbal with the most ping, and no overtone in the Sabian arsenal is probably the AAX Metal Ride. It makes my ears bleed though, the ping is so loud.

defintely go for a rock or metal ride, something that the bell is more of what it sounds like it should be compared to the "slope" of something like a crash.

Phi, Sabian doesn't make 22" Rock rides. Just for Portnoy.

sabian will make a 22" ride for you. they have this system where by they will charge the price of a 22" in that series only, no extra charge, and make it up for you specially. this means you can get all sorts of odd sizes within reason. quite cool, i think
cheers

usually, anything in Sabian's HH series should be "dry". anything with a small sized bell and that's pretty thing will have the least overtones, yet have a really bright and cutting stick tone. btw, those are my fav ride tones.

Sabian's HH Leopard 20" Ride

my bud just got one, and its a pretty sweet ride. at first, it sounded like a dead man hole cover, but after a few days, its really opened up some. musta been the cold cold weather, we've been having.

has the sweetest bell ya ever heard. but sticking is nice a dry, with a sweetly dark sticking tone. overtones? nadda.

almost all of Paiste's signature rides have no overtones, but the dry heavy has the least in my opinion, followed by the dry ride and then the dry dark ride.

the raw bell is a good choice too

I have a 20 inch Zildjian K Custom Dry Ride, (not to be confused with the other Zildjian K's and K customs with "dry" in the name)
It's very dry with very little overtone, but it projects nicely. I don't think it would work for something like heavy metal though.
It's unlathed and unpolished, so if you like only brilliant shiny cymbals, this one's not for you.

Also try the Sabian HHX dry ride. Another nice dry ride.

You'll have to tell us what this 8" ride sounds like when you get it. I can't even begin to imagine it.

the respective websites and stores to further
my exploration.

Thanks again!;)

An 8" ride would be more like a bell than anything...i am so getting an HH Manhattan Bridge ride one of these days though! Maybe a 14" VFX mini ride, its kind of a cool little thing, it would sound really good mixed in with the Bridge, a 20" Manhattan, a 20" K Custom Dry light(with rattler or rivets), a 21" Big Band ride, 20" Vintage ride, an 18" K Custom flat ride(perhaps with a rattler or rivets as well), and 14" K Mastersound hats, 22" bosphorus jeff hamilton China...yah that would be the ultimate traditional jazz/big band set-up. Maybe toss my 15" or 18" K Custom crash in there with my 20" Dark ride...yah...i'm a cymbal slut. I'm starting to like Sabian a bit too. I like the being able to order old cymbals, and new cymbals in any size you want pretty much.

That's right through your Sabian dealer you can order a 22" HHX Evolution Ride, all you really have to do is be prepared to wait a while for it, it will be the same price as any other HH or HHX 22" ride.

How long a wait are we talking about?
I can be impatient sometimes.

For what they say is a medium ride...its on the thin side, a big stick makes the the stick definition dissappear, its definitly a blue/jazz oriented type ride. The bell is ok, its not an overly cutting latin bell sound, but its not a mini-bell flat sounding bell sound, its a dark sounding but still fairly high pitched bell sound that is kind of soft and mushy feeling on the shoulder or shaft of the stick. As a jazz ride, its a nice ride but i already have rides i like more, and its not what i'm currently looking for in a ride. It seemed to lose its definition too far up to the bell for what i'm looking for currently, it does have a sweet sounding crash sound though...

I heard a z custom Mega bell was dry but extremely loud.
Who's got one and how does it sound?

I have two original ones from around 1989-90. They are very loud, very one dimensional. I prefer the tone and spread of them more than 20" or 22" heavy power rides.

pingiest ride i ever used is a 20" z custom power ride
produces almost nothing in overtones & is loud as a mother f-----

Gospel, which consists of some jazz, r n b, soft rock, contempary,
and a different genre altogether named hosanna. I want to
learn some basic metal grooves too.
