I would think that the Masterworks kit that can be won would sound nearly identical to an MMX. Am I way off base here? I can see justifying masterworks if you want a combination of woods/thickness or varying woods for different drums around the kit, but if you're gonna get pretty much the same shell as is available in Masters series, then why would you pay a whole load more for custom colours?

Because a person chooses to do so, and because a person can. If you feel that the kit being given away for free is no better than a set of Masters, then don't enter. Gives me a better chance for a second set of MW's. :D

Well, that doesn't really answer my question. I realise that anyone can do what they want to, but my main question was if that kit would sound the same as an MMX.
Also, one more thing to think about for that contest. How many people do you think are sending three e-mails per day? hehehe, bad idea! If you, say, send an email every day at 09:00, 12:00 and 15:00, you will find that you are infact sending 4 emails every 24 hours and will be disqualified! You would have to shift your three email set back a little later every day to squeeze by, but how many people do you think are doing this or realised it? (or even have the free time to do so?)
I guess I'll give up that little bit of info now since the contest is almost over and I'll bet they have 50 000 emails by now considering there are 6,000 members.
Mattz280 - I agree, if you're going to buy a new kit with the same shell specs as a standard Masters model, I'm not sure the extra expense is justified.
And by the way, if you happen to win the kit and are worried that it's too close to an MMX, you have a standing offer from me to buy it from you for $500.00.

I can give you 2 other reasons someone might want mw instead of masters even if the shells are the same. first, you may want a different color than one that is offered in masters. second, and less important, is that I think round badges look better... specially ones that say masterworks on them. you all must admit, there is a little more prestige to having a masterworks kit, even if theres hardly any differences between it and a masters series.
ohh yeh, and if whoever wins the kit doesnt want it, I will give you 600 for it.

the difference between masters and masterworks is that all the mw shells are made at the same time, from the same wood. this means the drums are better, almost perfectly, matched. also, it cant be cheap getting ANY finish the user wants, and making it.

Its not that you will send more than three emails between the time you get up and the time you go to bed, it's just that in a 24 hour period you are likely to end up with four emails over that time unless you precisely plan and time your emails.
E.g. you send one at 10:00 15:00 and 19:00. Then if you send one the next morning at 9:59, you will four emails in that 24 hour period and all four emails will be disqualified.
