I am leaving for Air Force boot camp feb 11th, today I stored my drums in the attic of my aunts condo. The attic is not heated and the drums are not in cases...and I am in Maine so the attic could get quite cold. I am going to be gone for awhile and won't be able to get my drums for like 5 months....and it can get quite hot up there...the question. Should I got through loading up my drums again and storing them in a basement that is heated...cause I heard that pearl drums are made to expand and contract..to what degree I don't know. If I leave them in the attic should I loosen the heads...what should I do! HELP!

This is my opinion.

Ideally the should be in room temperatures but if they are going to be in extreme cold or hot tempuratures for long periods of time, you SHOULD lossen the heads.
It is my understanding that your drums can warp in the cold. I haven't heard too much about what happens to them in the heat. My suggestion is that as long as the attic is getting to anyting below 0 degrees or above 30 degrees celsius. They should be fine.
I would highly suggest getting in contact with some that works at Pearl to better answer your question.......this is just my opinion.

I know that if they are a wrap kit the heat can warp the wrap. I don't know if anything can happen if they are a finished wood kit, though. As long as the basement isn't extremely hot, I'd put them there, but I wouldn't leave them in an attic for 5 months (just my opinion).

Good to know! They are a wrap kit. I hope my wrap doesn't warp (thats kinda screwed up spelling that)! Well I think we have come to a quiet consensus (unlike all the other posts where people are fighting like 2 year olds) thanks for the ad-vice. Anybody know any good jokes?

What was the football coach upset with his new player?

He wanted a tight end, but he ended up being a loose reciever!

Aight that was stupid...whatever haha.

What are you going to do in the AirForce?

I ask because I have had family in the Air Force?

"cause I heard that pearl drums are made to expand and contract"

Where the hell does this come from? :o

Bottom line is if the temp and/or humidity are going to get excessive in the attic (and they probably will) then put them in the basement. Wood and plastic expand and contract (and I'm not sure how a drum company can accomodate that fact of nature) so a little common sense and precaution is in order if you want to prevent damage to your drums and hardware.

If you're asking me, then I have no idea.
