I love the bass drum in And Justice For All.
Does he use muflers or res heads with holes in or what?
Please Help

Since he used Tama Superstars on that tour (If I recall correctly), I wouldn't be surprised if he used them for recording.
I have a set of superstars (although not my current kit) and the kick is awesome to begin with. It's a 100% birch kick. I'm not sure how he set it up, but having a good bass drum to begin with is half the battle.

that album made the "click" sound on the bass drum really popular. Try moderate bass drum muffling (big blanket, Evans EQ pad), lower tuning, and a Danmar Power Disc kick pad (use a plastic or wood beater). That will give you that muted sound with a killer "click"

Nope...............he used Superstars on the Master of Puppets tour. For And Justice he used the Granstar Custom series

in my opinion it would be next to imposible to recreate that sound without **** loads of EQ, thats how i think they got his bass drums to sound how they did, i personally think they sound alot like a MIDI bass drum, and aren't that fond of the sound, but i don't mind it.... DYERS EVE RULES!!! and i can play it and lars can't any more! :D
That off white double bass he used was actually an Artstar II kit, with Granstar lugs. My dumbuilder friend hung out with Lars at one of those shows, and Lars told him they were actually the Artstar's.

And Justice kit was definately a Granstar. The Forever I may roam kit is as you say an Artstar II with Granstar lugs. This was it.

I thought it sounded great. Wood beaters and a Danmar pad will help get a more clicky sound.

You can get that sound easily nowadays.I thought everyone had a "been there, done that"attitude towards Lars' sound. You really just need a danmar beater pad and a hard wood or plastic beater then have the soundman adjust the eq.If you tell any decent soundman you want Lars' clicky kick sound they'll know exactly what you're talking about.I thought Lars' Justice sound was kinda a joke. The drums are bone dry on that album.Listen to the Black album where there's tons of compression and eq on the drums and gtrs for that matter.I like the Black sound way better.

well i dont think he sold out when he could actually play drums!
but now he has a signiture style of having a f*ckin 10000$ drum kit and a style of bass-snare-bass-snare-bass-snare OK Lar$ whatever. ]
check out the jamming videos on metallica.com, after battery he looks like he will collapse!
