As I see it you have two options, (Both any series, whatever compliments your current setup)
1) A larger crash, 16"/18"
2) A 10"/12" splash
Thats probably not a great lot of help to you but thats my view on it.

i don't think that the splashes would be a good choice.
maybe the best thing to do would be to add another ride because it's the most important thing in jazz

add a thin ride or a thin large crash. something dark to balance the 15" a.

really, you dont need more than a hh, crash and ride for jazz as far as im concerned, but i suppose there are always upgrades to buy...

Thanks for the ideas.......I do like to play other types of music also....I only started drumming 5 months ago so I'm still experimenting with different sounds...I was thinking a small splash...and maybe a China Hat???? and now maybe a thin large crash!!!!!

You could get a swish, or large china to ride on. those always sound cool in jazz..a nice transition from the cleaner sounding ride.

Also, try out some rides with rivets also known as "sissles".

Rivets seem to sound better in drier rides though. Just a thought. Anyways yah i play a lot of jazz. I have a K Custom Dry Light Ride...its sweet! Great alternative ride from my normal K Custom Dark. I used to have a bunch of ride cymbals and have them all up, 5 to be exact but needed to get rid of some as i move out of the traditional jazz into more a contemporary jazz. A flat ride is also a great option, i had a K Custom Flat, with a rattler attached(the rattler sits on my Dry light currently), i also had a K Constantinople Light ride, which is just a thunderingly low pitched, washy, and dark cymbal also good alternative ride or main ride for jazz. I have a K Custom Medium that i like to put on the far right, when i need something with a little more punch. I'm using 2 sets of hats now, and i was even before but had to get rid of the K/Z dynos when the mastersounds came out, that way i have something washier and loose at the main hat point for some direct playing and that killer chick sound on a remote pedal with the A Mastersounds. I would however like to get a set of K mastersounds instead for jazz, the A`s are really because my k custom dark`s don`t cut as well when i play rock or funk. I don`t set splashes up for traditional jazz, bebop, swing, etc. you don`t really need them as when you have the control of opening and closing your hats to get the quick sounds that you don`t really need often. Crashes i use a 15``and 18`` K Custom crashes, with a soft touch, i don`t touch them too often...the 18 more so than the 15, the 15 is splash like enough too, which is another reason i don`t use splashes. I stole this from dave weckl though, and it works very well as a funkier ride in jazz, even traditional...stack a 14`` mini-china on an 18`` thin crash, or like a 16`` china on a thin 20``crash, try different combination in a shop near you, and see what you like, i opted for what Dave used, which was a 14`` Mini-K China over an 18`` K Dark Thin Crash, only i got traditional finish as opposed to the brilliant finish he uses. A swish would be nice one of these days, i have my eyes set on the new Bosphorus Jeff Hamilton 22`` china. Typically though, 2 rides and a crash with a nice chick pair of hats, is more than enough to do anything within jazz. But i`m a cymbal slut.

How do you mount the china-crash combo? Wouldn't there be too much space between the hole of the china and the hole of the crash?
Thanks!

Nope, they stack pretty much flush, there is a little gap between the bells, but not enough to make mounting them difficult, and it adds to that trashy, funky ride sound. If it were a 16" china, i would probably have some problems but 14" seems to be about right for an 18" cymbal. The K crash doesn't have that large a bell either, you have to really try out combinations in store to find what's right for you. The new Weckl stack looks interesting too, i just don't think brilliant finish cymbals work for me, 14" HHX Evolution Extra Thin China on an 18" Evolution Crash. I kind of want to try a 14" HHX Chinese on an 18" HHXtreme Crash too, that would be pretty trashy.

i would have to say a zildjian flat ride. they have a nice soft, layed back feel and sound great for jazz. Also i would suggest instead of getting a sizzle cymbal, you get a chain of small ball bearings and put that on top of the cymbal. That way you get he sizzle sound without drilling your cymbal!
