What you currently got and what type of music do you normally play?

the 18" crash/ride that comes with the Forum set is awesome. Apparently it's made by Sabian but carries the Pearl Logo.

Crash rides are sorta a bad invention, they aren;t very good either way. (In my opinion.)

Hmmm, i always liked the K Crash/Ride. The thing about Crash/Rides is they make that great second ride, i would highly reccommend not using them as your main ride though, unless you play really light styles of music. Sometimes crash/rides seem better for use as crashes, with that nice bell sound, in which case they can add another percussive sound to your set-up, while still being a practical crash. It depends what you are looking for.

If you mean a crash and ride seperate, go for a sabian aax studio crash or a zildjian a crash, and a saban hand hammered rock ride or powerbell ride. if you mean crash/ride as one cymbal, go for a sabian aax metal crash, 19 or 20". it is no called a crash ride, but works really well as one-it has a large bell but a thin edge, so it is very loud and cutting.
hope this helps
Jamie

the crash ride that comes with the forum sounds good. but its lasting quality sucks. it gets marks and its edges get bent to quickly. i got some paiste 502's and they dont bend like that.

anything with a small bell, and that's thin usually makes a killer crash/ride. they're also usually 18", but i've seen larger 20" that sound great.

I agree! I have used a crash ride as asecondary ride. It was a zildjian A . It did the job. I mainly used it as a crash though.

Hi I just bought a brand new starter kit with hi-hats 14'', a thin crash 16'' and a crash/ride 18''. I want to upgrade my kit. Should I buy another crash and use the crash/ride as a ride or buy a real ride 20 '' ? Reply on this forum or send me a message at pacific_gunner13@hotmail.com.

Thx

There's no such thing as A Custom Sweet Ride, period.

I'd suggest buying a "real" ride. What kind of budget are you on?

As you can see by my user name - I not anti-crash/ride :)
If you ever get the chance, try out the Sabian 18" El Sabor.
It's a great crash with decent ride and a monster Bell.
If stuck on a desert island, I'd pick this first along with
some hats!

That sounds like a very good deal and A Zils are pretty legendary.

I would suggest a Sabian AA ride...I have a 20" Medium and it's lovely, a true all rounder. If you like more stick definition try something heavier but I'd avoid the Metal-X series as they seem quite clangy, a 20" Heavy or 21" Rock.
For a crash 18" is my favourite size and you really can't go wrong with Zildjian A Custom Projections.
