i just wanna know how much it would cost to have my rims painted. I think i need to have it dipped in acid or something to remove the chrome and then get it powdercoated. Or just powdercoated? i dont know. so can some1 who knows pleez tell me exactly how its done and if i can do it myself and how much materials would cost or if i must take it to a shop to get it done. and how much would it cost in a shop? Would it be cheaper to just buy 6 black rims.

Gibralter makes some nice black hoops (solid 2.3mm). I've seen them in the interstate music catalog and they're not that expensive. Just going on what I know about the cost of having metal refinished in general, I doubt you could get your original hoops refinished for less than the cost of the new Gibraltar hoops unless you have a friend to do the work at cost.

either way, you'll probably want black lugs as well... it'd look awfully funny to have black hoops with chrome lugs and tension rods.

r u sure it would look funny anti? have u seen a kit with black hoops and chrome lugs and tension lugs? i was thinkin it might look tight. Chrome and black are a good mix. A black set with chrome hardware looks tight right. Now dont u think a red wine set with chrome hardware, chrome lugs and tension lugs with black hoops would look tight. Maybe Drum313 can help us out. Red wine wrap, with chrome lugs and tension lugs and black hoops.

don't do something with the intention of being unique (i'm not implying that you are, I just sort of get the impression from what you said... idk). Do it because you like it. If it happens to be unique, more power to you.

You can send your hoops and lugs to OCDP or Merrick and they will charge you about $75.00 per drum to powdercoat then any color you choose. Its actually not that expensive if you compare it to buyng new hoops and lugs.

try a motorcycle specialist paint shop or similar, they usually powder coat or stove enamel frames,. so they may be able to help you. good luck

Personally, I think the chrome looks the best. When you're under the stage lights, black hoops are not going to stand out like shiny chrome will. Just my opinion.

Black tension rods are available, they are just black steel, there is no finish to chip on them. I tried them on my kit but it was too much, the little bit of chrome looks good against the black hoops and lugs
