I discovered that the bottom bearing edge of my 16 x 18 floor tom was flawed as I was going through and wiping off my kit from playing out. The bearing edge looks to be uneven or unfinished right where a joint in the wood plys comes together. The bottom head of the tom has never been off and has the original Pearl resonant head on it.
Tone-wise, I don't think there is any negative effect, you can tell though that undue stress is happening to the resonant head however. I plan on keeping this kit for quite a while so I wanted to find out what I would need to do to get this fixed. I bought this kit new in July of 2002.
