painting rims

i wanna paint my rims black but i dont know if i should buy spray paint and paint em or go to a shop and get em custom painted for me. tell me wat to do? (if a shop, where) (i live near a music and arts, victor liz, and washington music)

As far as I know, if you simply paint over the chrome, the paint will just peal off.

The rims will need to be dipped in an acid base to remove all the chrome & then they will need to be Powder Coated, which I believe is a special colouring process.

Vinnie is correct on the solution. I have had several sets of marching rims redone that way and they get abused as a matter of course. The finish holds up well.
