1) Im thinking of going with a 22x20 bass drum when i purchas my reference drums. What do you guys think about a 22x20 in the reference wood combo? I have only played a 22x20 8ply maple bass before and i really liked it. Should i just stick with a 22x18? I really want to try out the drums b4 i buy, but that will be impossible so i gotta make this decision soon.

2) I have only seen/heard the reference drums with coated heads, im very curious about the sound with clear heads. I always like my drums to sound wide open and project "Let the drums speek". Whould the reference kits be suited well for a nice wide open sound, because from what ive seen they are pretty much suited for a more jazz/fusion type setting. I really what the drums to be pretty versitile for me to play fusion and then move on to lounder playing.

3) Any word of when we can be expecting new finished/hw color options?

virgil played them. he's very versatile. im sure they will sound powerful with some pinstripes or G2s. the 22 by 20 will definately sound like thunder with the mahogany added. reference and masterworks come standard with coated heads so i think u should probably specify that. check out summer namm for more info on finishes or pm one of the mods.

I used one last year with smooth white Remo Amb. top and clear Amb on the bottom. Most people don't know but the MasterWorks kit that was in the preformance booth at winter NAMM 04 was a prototype RF kit. The sound was GREAT!!!!! I like clear heads on the kicks way better.

Wow cool man, i also like clears on my bass. Unless im playing some dirty old school jazz then i love the coated heads. So im guessing all thoes kits you guys were hinding under the big tarps at pearl corp when people whould visit were actually the rf prototypes :) Should we be expecting some big surprizes at summer namm?

Ah go ahead - get the 20x22. You'll probably be one of the first forum members to have one. Then you can be the envy of us all! :D

Ya AL you have swayed me. I think ima go with these sizes 22x20 10x8 12x9 14x14 16x16 and in the future meba add another bass and a 8x7.

Scarlet fade is what stands out. All the finishes are nice, but scarlet fade takes the cake. I wanted to wait until i could get black hw, but now i dont really care. Chrome will look wonderful with this kit.

From one 20x22 kick owner to another, you won't be sorry, especially with the african mahogany and maple plies, that kick will scream phat and punchy.
Continued success to you.

Nice, I love those sizes and color. Most excellent. Just hide the women and small children when you thump that kick drum. Be sure and post pics. "And frankly Scarlet, we do give a d---". Oh yeah! :)
