View Full Version : Ultimate (I think) challenge for Drum313

Hey man, I've been a big fan of the stuff you've done on the board, tremendous stuff. Sounds like the colour requests people have been giving you have been almost too easy... so here's a challenge I hope you can meet. I'll provide a few pics below as a template if needed.
If you can... a shot of blue marbelized, with gold hardware.
Obviously, that's probably a walk in the park. Ok, how about fading the marbelized (is this possible IRL?) to a straight blue, on a tom or snare, either or.
Still too easy? Can you superimpose the above (non-fade) on a picture of my own snare?
Well, there it is. Thanks for anything you can pull off. Here's the pics.

Not. Recovered Forums, actually. More detail on the rest of the set at the following thread: http://66.40.220.17/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7846

Drum313, if you see this and wanna attempt sticking it onto a shot of my snare, I've fixed up the photo quality of my snare a bit, you might want to grab the photo of it from the above thread link. thx man

Hey,

Sorry about not responding... I've had a stomach bug for the past week. Not fun at all.
 I wasn't really all that motivated to be doing lots of Photoshop stuff. I feel somewhat better now though.

Anyway, the blue marbelized with gold hw is no problem, and putting the blue marbelized on your snare is also do-able. I'll post them tomorrow.

However, I'm not sure about the "marbelized fade"... It seems like a finish that Pearl might not do. (Then again, maybe they would. What do I know?!) We'll have to see what Carl says about it.

:)

Drum313, I have some extensive experience in Photoshop as well and I must say that your blue marbalized with gold hardware does really look real. I am impressed. Good work man.

drum313, i have photoshop and i hvae no idea how to use it, what would i use to change the color of the hardware?

Drum313
02-03-2003, 07:44 PM
Hey guys, thanks for the compliments. :)

I've been using Photoshop for about 4 years now, and have only been able to do stuff like this in the past year or so... It's a great program, but it certainly requires a lot of time and effort to learn how to use it well. (And I'm still learning about it, every day)

Anyway, to answer your question cp999,
there are a few ways to change the color of the hw. You could use any of the lasso tools or the magic wand tool and select all the hw, then use the "Hue/Saturation" adjustment... or, like I did here, use the brush tool set to "color" at about 30%-40% opacity. I used a bright golden color and just painted the hw gold.
That's the simple answer anyway...

:)

ok i guess using the method you said before it wouldnt be too hard to get the hardware on any 'template' photo gold, but how did you transfer over the marbelized finish and make it look right on a different sized drum?

Hey, very cool!

It wasn't very hard was it? Photoshop seems very intimidating, but it makes doing what you want pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

MIA_Drümer - The simple answer to your question is that I cut and pasted parts of the finish from the "blue marbelized" tom onto your snare, blended the seams, added shadows and the MW badge, and adjusted the brightness/contrast so it looked right.
:)

Fixxxer
02-09-2003, 09:00 PM
you have any tips for black hardware?

Drum313
02-10-2003, 02:36 PM
:)
That's a little harder... Basically it's the same idea, but more work. Try this... Start by using the brush set to "normal" at a low opacity (try 15%-30%) and paint over all the hw. After that play around with the brightness/contrast settings.
That's basically how I did it.

The main thing is, mess around and try as many different things as you can... You'll be surprised with how many odd things you come up with.

Fixxxer
02-13-2003, 08:26 PM
did you use a black color to darken that?

Fixxxer
02-13-2003, 09:02 PM
its not masterworks, but i am somewhat proud of this one, all the gold was silver

yeah...hey on that red and yellow one, was the kit red to begin with or did u change it.

ps: i added some blue hardware to a blue export kit, but i think the color combo sucks, so im gonna make it like a yellow or something...maybe orange or red...good job man, we might be able to beat drum313 in a little bit! lol

Fixxxer
02-14-2003, 10:18 AM
it was red in the first place, but i might change it to blue, that would look killer

blue proved to be difficult, but check this one out

drummer4JC
02-14-2003, 05:05 PM
one thing ive noticed about just puting a mask over the original color is the color of reflections. like on that red one, the light reflected as white, and on the green one, its a lime green color...

Fixxxer
02-14-2003, 09:32 PM
oh yeah, i do see that, but that would be too much of a ***** to change, so im not gunna

MisterSeth
02-15-2003, 10:07 PM
