My new project in summer will be a snare drum making operation.
I was wondering that what would be THE best material for a wooden piccolo snare? Birch? Maple? Whatever? And how thick?
What is the difference in sound projection between all these materials?
I'd really appriciate your knowing answer!!!

I know it sounds like promotion, but there is a lot of information available in the snare gallery. Just click on the images for the sound descriptions of the woods.

Hope it helps,

mahogany, cherry, walnut, oak, ash, birch, and these are just the big companies. The little companies also offer cocobolo, rosewood, purple heart, etc. Then theres steel, brass, bronze, fiberglass, bamboo, acrylic, and titanium. Go to the store with the biggest selection and try some out .I like old mahogany snares.
