i have been thinking very seriously about a masterworks kit but here is my delimma:

i have 9 different pearl drumkits.. i have 2 BRX, 2 MBX, one MLX, one SRX, one SPX, one SLX, and a rythmn traveler .. i do experiment with mixing pieces to get different sounds ..(i even have one of 30 millennium mist BRX kits ..) and with my session kits having different sell compositions as you know ( SLX mahog/birch SPX mahog/maple, SRX maple), i have a real good idea of how i want to build one save for mixing birch and maple.. but here is my question.. what does the masterworks really do better than production masters.. i have played a masterworks kit in maple/mahog shells and i liked it.. but i am trying to sell myself on justification.. i will soon this year have a masters custom to further my maple experiment.. but i would like to be able to play one other than at a music store where i can hear and discern drum to drum what it does better than a masters..in reality, its a tribute to how good production pearl drums are ..i can tune better tones out of a session kit than any dw, and masters, well, i'll smoke dw in sound and i have proven than to many dw players.. but i want to build one kit that can do what all 8 of mine do ( can't count the rythmn traveler).. i am a pro, and i play for a living..so sound is the essence.. plus i want to see if its true that masterworks is truly a 'masters on steriods'.. i really like tico's current kit a lot.. i need to play a masterworks i guess is what i am saying and how can i do that ?? i am not abusive or amatuer.. i know how to hit them and get the sounds.. i am selling two of my current kits ( one of my MBX and my SRX ) to fund this and a masters custom..
also: i know about the MW spec heads and wish i could get some to use on my kits.. i ran out of my stock or smooth whites, which were really old ( i found them in a store )..and they werw the only remo heads i have played recently i liked ( currently using evans generras.. they are sweet) i tune without muffling to get a pure , round 'that pearl' sound..

thanks

dude, you gots a **** load of pearl

yeah, masterworks would fill your void of sound that you desire, but do you really need one that bad? they are expensive, and it seems like you got all the drums you would ever need, just mix them together

but if you really think it is necessary, masterworks will get the job you want done, done

fixxer:

i like your quote.. i can't stand people who b.s.

i really want a masterworks for two reasons:

first: I really hate DW, i have never played a kit of theirs i like and thier pedals continually give me problems ( I use eliminators they are the best..)

second: i think it would be nice to have to ultimate kit, which, if masterworks can prove to me they are ever better than the regular masters, then I would truly have the ultimate pearl kit

i agree! i like their pedals better than the eliminators. Maybe thats what my foot has been customed to for the past 6 years.

AFTER I BROKE TWO, YES TWO DW DELTA ACCELERATOR PEDALS IN TWO YEARS..BOTH TIMES FOOTBOARDS.. I SWITCHED BACK TO PEARL..MY ELIMINATOR HAS OVER 300 SHOWS ON IT AND STILL FEELS AS GOOD AS NEW..AND NOTHING HAS GONE WRONG WITH IT EVER..!! i have played pearl pedals my entire drumming career ( 27+years) and i have pearl pedals 20 years old that still play good..and nothing is as fast as my eliminator ..sometimes i forget its there ..it follows my foot perfect..( i use very light spring tension)

plus, if either of you heard any of my kits, you'd change your mind about .DW..( or as i say 'overrated workshop' ). my old MLX kit, which is at least 12 years old or older, sounds absolutely phenomenal and has some of the best tom sounds ever.. but for now, the best kit i have ever played period is my 2001 millennium mist BRX kit, quite frankly, i havent heard a kit that will touch it..and its a completely stock shell.. it has a limited edition finish and hardware ( kind of a see through-satin on the shells and satin lugs) ..pearl only made 30..

both drummers who played in my group prior to my era played dw..and everyone in the band though dw was the stuff..but not anymore..i wouldn't have a job if i didint play well and sound great..they demand it ,..

thats my opinion..
