Hey, I just stumbled across an amazing deal today. I picked up a nice used Prestige Session Select 4pc. Maple & Mahogany kit in natural color with deep toms and a Pearl deep snare. It has been over 4 yrs. since the last time I played. I got the kit, 2 Pearl boom stands, Pearl hi hat stand with Zildjiaan Z series hi hat cymbals and throne for 899.00 at a local music store. I played the kit for 5 minutes and it's one of the best sounding kits I've ever played and the snare is the best I've ever played/heard. I am going to go back and measure the length of the toms and bass drum because I've never seen a Pearl Session kit set-up this way. What do you think ?

I've got a 7 pc Pristige Session Select wine red myself. Love it, one of the best sounding kits I've ever played. Not sure that I'll ever get rid of it.

I have an older Session Elite with the long lugs on the toms. Piano Black in color. It sounds great, and I almost prefer the look of the long lugs.

Hey Playspearldrums,
Exactly (just outta curiosity) how many kits do you have, and what is the difference between the kits?
Also, do you use the same exact cymbals on all the kits, or do you have a different cymbal lineup per kit, and if so, what is the reason behind this?
:p Curisioty killed the cat, but it came back 8 more times, til it figured it out... :p
I picked up a set of natural birch finish toms a few years back, Pearl session select with ISS on the 2 smaller toms. Smaller toms is relative, 11x13, 13x15, 16x18 floor. After a few different rack configurations, I ended up adding a Floor RIMS cradle for the 15 and put the 13 on a snare stand. Can't find a matching bass (still looking) so I veneered a newer Tama rockstar 16x22 to match, really looks cool, natural birch with those black FRP hoops.
I started adding to the above kit with used drums cause I wanted a 12 but couldn't find a matching one. Went contrasting with wine red, and bought another and then a bass and another tom, ect. I now have a complete 6 piece Sessions select kit in wine red with 16x22,8x10,10x12,12x14,14x16 racked on Optimounts (they each came with ISS) and even a 5x14 black mist sessions snare that came from one of those special jazz kits a few years back. The 16 is noticably deeper in color, like it's permanantly in the shade, more towards a burgandy. This is my primary gigging kit. And will remain so for a several years.

Any pics f your kits oh and the specs

in response to the preceeding questions:
rather than waste a bunch of space in here anyone curious about my various set-ups can email me or go to my band's website and see them.. i currently have 6 of my 9 pearl kits in rotation..i like to change set-ups a lot to dial into the room/venue we play. i played a huge double bass MLX kit last weekend ( jan 31/feb1) and our next weekend ( feb14/15) i'm going to play a basic 5 pc kit based around my session select kit, a few cymbals and a dr-500 rack ..depending if we go national or espand regionally, i/m going to have two setups ( one large-one small) i'll take out with me ..
easy load -in+ big stage= big kit
crappy load-in + small stage+ small kit

To Playspearldrums:
I just noticed that you also live in Georgia! Do you ever get up towards Hall County, towards where I live (I live off of Thompson Bridge Road)? My friend that is going to sell me his drums, the situation with that is the drums are out in Canton County in his Uncle's house, so he's having a hard time getting his Uncle to get them up this way (mostly since his Uncle works crazy hours at UPS), so my friend my just drive there and get them for me!
To borrow a phrase.
NINE kits! and you're NOT playing even regionally?
WHY? I can see 1 or 2 collectibles but NINE! Where do you store them all?
Once I first got up to 3 kits at one time, a standard 5pc, a junker 4pc, and a 9pc dbl bass. Sold the junker 4pc and built up a 5pc pearl sessions with 2 floor tom setup. While I was building up used session pieces, I split the 9pc into 2 separate kits. So 4 kits, too much for me and sold the original 5pc I had. Built up the session kit to the point of having 2 kits there and finally sold off the 9pc double bass kit.
At the time I originally got the 9pc I bought hardcases for them all. I ended up buying more & using 14 hardcases and 3 bags for transport and drum storage and nowhere good to store the cased drums. I HAD to leave my gig kit cased in the band cargo trailer, with one set in my 10x10 practice room cased/stacked with another set up AND one stacked/cased in the basement. Boy, was my wife glad when I sold off that split 9pc set. At the time I was band-less and all those drums took up a lot of space around the house (all the PA gear added to the mess!).

Hopefully you guys playing older Session sets will know the answer...
I have a '95 or '96 Session Series. That was the year they had Session with laminate and Prestige Session with lacquer. Mine is just the Session with laminate. My set came with the 10X10, 12X10, 14X12, 16X14 toms. I just special ordered a 2000 Session Custom in 8X8, which Pearl was nice enough to laminate for me.
My question...what's the difference? I can't find any info. on the older Session kits. I know the 2000 tom is 100% maple. I think my older set is maple/mahoganey/maple. Just wanted to know for sure...any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response.
I just found an old link to Music Shack.com and they had the break down of the old Session kits...8 play mahogany/maple...got my answer. Thanks again...

I have a professional DX series set. From what I understand, they only made those between '59 and '98. It's a 12, 13, 16, 22, with a 61/2" steel snare. It came with all original hardware, and a 21" 70's Zildjian jazz ride, a barely used newer 18" Zildjian Medium crash, a 16" barely used newer 16" Zildjian medium crash, and a Viking throne. The hardware included two unilock three tier booms, hi-hat, and B.D. pedal. Believe it or not, I picked it all up for $400.00!!! All the bottom heads were new Ambassadors. I put clear powerstroke 3's on all the toms, and of course, the batter head of the bass drum. There are good deals out there if you just keep on looking. I found mine at a yard sale!!!

Sorry for the error. They were made between '95 and '98, not '59. Sorry.

playspearldrums, sounds like you've got good taste in drums. I've got a new Dusk Blue set and was wondering if the Teal Sessions look anything similar to them. I couldn't find a www listing for your site.

I own a set of Prestige Session Selects and I love them. I recently purchased the Optimount system for the toms and I like the Optimount much better than the ISS system. I purshased these drums so I wouldn't ding my Premiers which were twice as much. To my delight the Pearls exceeded my expectations with their quality and great sound. They look fantastic as well. One fine day I will order a Masterworks as soon as I have a quick 4 grand lying around that isn't earmarked for something silly like food or shelter.

I have an ex-pacific blue slx 5 piece

that has been recovered in a red glitter wrap

and I use it for my Blues jam kit where all-comers can play it, or for gigs where the drummers have to share kits. I love its tight punchy sound and think it is a fantastic kit.
Still, now I'm in love with this lil fella:
