I just got a CH88 boom arm, and ireally like it. But i would like to try some tama cymbal mates on them, would they fit it? and as for the cymbal it holds its got a half inch crack developing from the edge, how can I stop this form getting worse? My old band teacher who was a drummer, told me to drill an eighth of an inch hole at the end of it. But I tried that with another one of my cymbal and it was to no aveal. Any ideas would be helpful.

thanks

How about cutting out the cracked section of the cymbal, that should work.

Drilling will fix the crack, just make sure you find the end of the crack...sometimes it can go farther than you see because it's so small.

drilling a hole is supposed to stop the crack, but if this is a stress point in the cymbal, it will just happen again. What kind of cymbal are we talking about?

I've been cracking cymbals for about thirty years and so has every other drummer in town (Liverpool) and nobody has found anything lasts for more than a couple of months whatever you do. However I've noticed Steve Gadd seems to have an old trusty cracked big ride (24"? by the look of it) I've seen him using on a couple of TV gigs so he might know something we don't. Or he may just love the sound.
However, cracks usually mean outward bound cash will soon follow. BooHoo.....

Zildjian cymbals have a one year warranty that covers cracks from playing, the only problem is sometimes you have wait a month or two for them to send you a new one.

Let me ask you are you hitting your cymbals right? You should try a cymbal makers website and find out if you are doing the right things to take care of your investments (thank you Slipknot1!)

For the last twenty years my crash cymbals have been lasting for about eight years on average. Before that I'd go thru one a year.
My ride he's 25 this year. I do know my stuff, it's you lot I'm trying to make see sense but you're all teenagers right. Whatever.

No, they won't. Tama's tilters are smaller than Pearl's.

The threads on the Tama Cymbal Mates are 6mm and Pearls and most everyone elses are 8mm. You can buy Cymbal Mate clones that are 8mm, I think it's Cannon or Gibraltar who sells them 5 to the pack.

well the way it sounds I'm going to have to find a new maricle cure for cracks or just do the temperary fix, drilling. So any suggestions on some new cymbals? I'm leaning towards some istanbuls but their kind of hard to try out. The nearest dealer for me is about a 400 Mile drive. So its probably going to be Zildjians, or sabians. Thanks again for all your know how guys.
