Chris309

Well it stands to reason that if you have a Masterworks kit in the exact same shell composition and you get the bearing edges recut to match the Reference Series, you indeed DO have a Reference Series kit for all intensive purposes. They are the same shells afterall. Save for the snare maybe.

Why does the photo have the sketchy background as well?

Are you ashamed of where your drums are kept?

I keep mine in my store room but i am not ashamed. If you wanted to prove everyone wrong by posting your pics, Animal, then you wouldn't have wasted time photoshopping it. You would have left it with the background so we can see that you own the kit.

AnimalGLX

No it's not just you.

Do you mean the inside or the outside of the shell?? The inside is indeed different, one maple and the otherone mahony. If you mean the outside, it's the light/shadow that makes it look different.

Why does the photo have the sketchy background as well?
Why not, I like it this way, the picture is only about the drums, not about all other things around the drums.
Seems to me you're a bit jealous and you have all the rights to be so. :D
Here is some proof. I don't have the red Masters Studio anymore, I've switched for the Masterworks in Vanilla Sparkle.

I hope this may convince you.

I can only hope and pray that one day, my command of the English language be a fraction of yours. For even that would be such a vast improvement. I am such a cretin. *hangs head in shame*

Thanx for the compliments, BUT ...... I've got news about the (new) sound.

I've used the old heads, Remo Emperor's coated (batter) and Ambassador's Clear (bottom) and I've noticed that the heads are seating very smoothly so tuning was/is a peace of cake :) .
But what about the sound...... If you love very fat and low sounding drums, forget the Masters and the Masterworks....go for the Reference, I was very impressed by how the new Bearing-edges changed the overall sound in an positiv way.
I'm absolutely sure soundengineers will love my drums. :D

Special and kind regards to Gert from LIGNUM, who did a marvellous job on recutting the bearing-edges...... I recommend a visit to his website. (http://www.lignumdrums.com/contact.php?lang=eng)

Gorgeous kit - absolutely. I'm very happy with the look & sound of my Tama Starclassics, but the Reference kits I've seen are very tempting. If they look as good as they sound ...

But can I ask why your Reference kit has the traditional Pearl lugs and not the swiveling Reference lugs, and why the bass drum has only eight lugs per side instead of ten?

Jesse

But can I ask why your Reference kit has the traditional Pearl lugs and not the swiveling Reference lugs, and why the bass drum has only eight lugs per side instead of ten?

Jesse

It has the traditional Pearl lugs because it's a Masterworks, the Bearing-Edges are recutted in half-round 45 (10/12/13 toms) and full-round (15"/16"toms and Bassdrum) like the Reference series drums. Pearl's 20" Bassdrum's come with eight lugs.

It was ALREADY STATED that no, they aren't officially Reference Series drums. But if you people would extricate your heads from your asses, you'd understand that a Masterworks kit with the SAME SHELL COMPOSITION and SAME BEARING EDGE CUTS as the Reference Series counterpart sizes IS A REFERENCE SERIES SPEC DRUM.

If you are ignorant of the process that Pearl uses to manufacture its drums, and how that DIRECTLY translates into his Masterworks kit being a Reference Series spec kit, then PLEASE stop posting in this thread until you acquire such knowledge.

Because, quite frankly, you sound like an idiot disputing a FACT.

Hey animal. I understand your kit. I will have a Reference kit before anyone where I live I would have bought a Masterworks kit if I could afforded them but buying the reference was my way of getting a kit like yours for less.

Hongkong
02-20-2005, 10:49 PM
I think we will see quite a few more Masterworks owners/buyers having their bearing edges cut to reflect the logic behind the Reference Series. This is not a downgrade, it's simply a way of utilising the new concept on Pearl's premium drum line, and makes perfect sense if you believe in the concept.

Awesome kit , by the way Animal!

My custom made Reference isn't crap, it's an awesome sounding kit :).

I know both AnimalGLX (Trust the Force, Luke) and Arjen and yes, Animal's second MW-kit had an extreme make-over considering the bearing edges. I have not visited him after the makeover but will soon and looking forward hearing the result.

I'm afraid for him that it will only come close to the sound of my Masters MHX because nothing can beat good old African Mahogany! :D

Ieeksss, it seems he wants me to change the bearing edges according the reference spec's too.

Hi, Murgen, nice pics. What's the use of the sticker at the bottom of your Bassdrum head? ;)

The sticker has been removed quite some time ago :) The patch is in use.

Oh, animal, I got a question.

In that first batch of pictures, with the surrounding kit, how the hell do you get in there to play it?? do you crawl under or something?!
sorry, I just need closure on that one.

lol, no, he doesn't. but technically, they share the smae specs. think about it, its like a les paul studio is the same specs wise as the custom, but they are cheaper.

Not the same specwise. A studio use cheaper quality electronics tuners and hardware. A custom has binding on the neck, better quality everything.

So a Masterworks with redone B-E's is better than a original Reference?? :D

bull crap!!!I was at a huge drum convention in Columbus you idiot...the head of pearl was there as well as two of the ONLY THREE REFRENCE SERIES KITS IN NORTH AMERICA!!!!!!! Those words came right from his mouth so dont deny it...by the way one kit was there for Dave DiCenso (Berkley College of Music) to play on in front of the crowd(along with steve gadd and simon philips) while the other was in the lobby of the theater for people to play on...THATS RIGHT!!! I ACTUALLY PLAYED A REFRENCE SERIES KIT!!!!!!!!!! You should die just for making this crap up!!!!
