I've just bought a Tama Starclassic Maple set. I've been an Export user since '97, and I felt it was time to upgrade to something more professional. Even though I'll be kicking myself for selling my exports, I'm sure I'll enjoy the Starclassics. The exports arent going far though, my roomate is buying them (Bruce_RMC), who is also a forum member.

mabey I should change that to "ironcobra"

Hey, enjoy. Tama makes a quality set too. You see not everyone on the forum is a close-minded Pearl-Nazi.

Cool!!! Thats a great kit! And of course ur new starclassic maple from tama is so much better than ur old export... but better than a Master Series??? or than a Masterworks!? :)

Hey eliminator,

I too, just upgraded my 1992 exports. I looked at just about everything, (except the Tama's) and ended up with a brx. I wish I had seen this forum before I made my purchase, I didn't realize all the different options available. anyway enjoy the new set.

wow Crimson Fade looks lots better than in the catalogs and website show you. I'd like to see a pic once it's all set up.

By the way, I like your comment about changing your name to Ironcobra...

I just read somewhere that Tama is discontinuing gold hardware. Sweet combo you have though.

I was assured by someone at tama that i'll be able to order component drums with the gold hardware option. They are in fact discontinuing the gold option, and it wont be advertised, but they have years of gold of lugs and such in stock for waranty issues and ppl like me who might want to add on to their kit in the next couple of years.

Does anyone know when the new tama performer line is being issued? I just ordered a set after christmas, it's due in like 3-4 months, and I'm curious if it'll have the upgrades or if it'll be a 2002 model. Thanks

well, I'd say that you'll get a 2003 model, especially if you ordered a color that is new for 2003. Don't qote me on this, but I'd imagine that Tama started making the 2003 models in late 2002. And with that kind of wait that you are expecting, I'd expect nothing less than the 2003 model. Give whoever you ordered your drums from a call and tell them about the issue.

Eliminator, cant help but wonder, who did you sell your export to, did you sell the cymbals with it, and how much were you able to get for it(if you dont mind my asking).

When I was at the young age of sixteen, I was shopping at my drum supplier in Norwalk, Connecticut. He sold both Pear and Tama. I mentioned in conversation that a drummer I knew down played Pearl and said that Tama was the best. You know what his comment to me was??

"Maybe he should look at the drummer, not the drums."

That has stayed with me forever. Almost 20 years later, I remember that comment. It's not the drums, it's the drummer. Pearl has and continues to be the leader in drum products and will always, in my eyes, the Leader Of The Drumming World!

Good luck and I hope you're still kicking yourself for selling the best drums ever made. PEARL!

I don't think Tama has any more to offer than Pearl. You should stay loyal to Pearl, Eliminator, besides the pic of that drum looks like an SRX cranberry fade wanna be. Save the extra money you'll spend on the starclassic and get an SRX or Masters. You won't regret it.

it's simple Tama is a great competitor with Pearl Tama Starclassic Maple is an amazing set it's as good as an SRX if not better but the best part about it is that it's half the price of a Pearl set. You can do the math. That's the problem some people seem to think only go with pearl because everyone uses them. It's the marketing people that's the only reason why Pearl became so big. Well they do make a nice set of drums but there not that much better than Tama or DW etc. Now i'm not slammin Pearl I am loyal to them.

Praise Pearl:D
