I was given a set of black Pearl drums in 1983, which were previously owned - so I don't know how old they really are or what the shells are made of. I am trying to determine if these shells are worthy of the time and expense of doing a wrap job. I apologize for the lack of pictures - no digital camera yet.

The inside of the shells has what appears to be a flat grey paint that looks to me like it was original. All the toms have an adjustable muffler for the batter side - 12", 13" 16" floor tom. It has a 22 X 14" bass drum and a chrome Pearl snare.

The hardware: the bd hoops are chrome, but have a matching black wrap band around them, with T-handle tensioning rods.

The tom holders are hexagonal shaped. The angle adjusters are like a ball shape with 4 short tensioning screws to lock the position.

The bearing edges are all in excellent condition, it plays great and has very nice thin shells. Before I spend money/time on a wrap (and an upgrade of the hardware, hoops, tom mounts, etc.), I'd like to know what the shells are made off?

Gene or Ray - what do you think? What kind of material are the shells? Did Pearl put that grey finish on the interior?

Thanks a million for the help...

One additional thing...if I do rewrap the shells, I have no interest in putting either the tom holders or bass drum mounting bracket back on. I would go with the Optimounts and a tom stand.

Are there any cover plates that fit over the existing holes for the toms and bd mounts?

I think the drilled holes for the bass drum leg assembly match the SRX legs, is this correct?

I would replace the bd hoops and all the claws with SRX tensioners and claws.
