There were some questions about this so here goes.

The snare tension knob has a locking mechanism that lock the tension at what ever level you desire at all times. When you want to change things you just depress the button and turn the knob simultaneously.

The strainer lever features what we call a Positive Lock system, when it's in the lock or "on" position it removes the possibility of accidentaally bumping or turning the snares off...you have to press the lock button to turn them off....one more cool thing about these strainers.

that's a nice feature... no more throwing my snare in anger because the lugs stripped from over tightened heads!

Very cool strainer design on both ends. And it looks really great to boot.

pearl_twitch,

The SR-1000 will be available separately and uses the same bolt pattern as the SR-010 strainer for the Free Floater and will retrofit it. It will not, however, retrofit any other strainer in the Pearl line.

Is it just me or is this a solution to a problem that doesn't exist? I have been playing drums for 26 years and I have NEVER accidentally turned my snare off. I've ordered my reference series drums including a snare but this does nothing for me. In fact, I think it will be more of a hinderence than help.

And while we are talking about solutions to made up problems, what is it with drum companies puting a locking set screw (drum key bolt) on the high hat clutch? Again, I have never in my life had one of these come loose at a gig or otherwise.

Maybe I need to rock harder?

i was just thinking the same thing. but hey, it's still cool.

it's like the Eliminator of strainers... cool features that aren't NECESSARY, but are still awesome.

Can you remove the strainer from the shell?

I've experienced a problem many times on my Pearl 13"x3.5" Piccolo before; where, when I'm doing rim shots the strainer works it's self gradullay to the off position.
I realise that I could just replace it or probably fix it but I have at least experienced a problem that this new strainer would eliminate.

But this is only a minor problem that could be fixed. However props to Pearl for the innovation and attention to detail. It's often the little things like that, that make the difference between good drums and great drums. IMO

:D

Wow, I guess I stand corrected! I was talking to another drummer just last night and we both agreed that this had never happened to us. So I DO learn something every day. Dammit, Pearl is smarter than me, AGAIN!

Have you ordered reference? I had a dream that mine arrived last night. Had to change my shorts when I woke up!

No, but I have a ordered a Masterworks in 20 ply (but with outer ply as Tamo in Scarlet Fade #155) and with the new Reference strainer (in Gold)... Hmmmm can't wait!

I typically have the problem of my snare strainer disengaging.

I currently have a Masterworks 14x6.5 Carbon Fiber snare with black hardware, so would I be able to get that strainer to fit my snare and also be in Black?

Sorry, it will be against the law to put the pearl strainer on another brand of drum :D

Please explain to me how you manage to inadvertently turn your snare off.

I spose if your wires were really loose...but mine aren't so I always have that pressure holding my snares up:) or maybe its because its not a pearl strainer:|

Yeah man, My snares arent always on really tight, so sometimes the strainer slips and disengages... kinda sucks.
