I hope they have more colors in the future, the ones they have now are amazing but i'd like to see some of the classic masters colors on the ref. series too. Even some of the new elx colors would look good on them... Great looking drums either way.

No but they do have one of the best photographers in these United States for product shots...Mr. John Walker of John Walker Studios. Stuff comes out looking almost alive...i wish I could be that skilled of a photographer...alas I had to be gifted with rugged good looks and jolly Santa like belly.
Some you also see with those pictures is the light pearlesence that these finishes maintain, it's a suttblety you can't miss in person.

Not the only two, there are at least three of us. The lugs look like some kind of "gimick" lug.
But that wouldn't keep me form buying a set of these beauties.

The lugs pivot to allow the tension rod the perfect angle to seat the rim to head, head to shell. So the tension rod pull straight down and not at an angle.

Fixxer a true bonham set would be 26 inch bass 14, 16, and 18 inch toms with a 14 by 6.5 snare. But Im pretty sure reference doesnt have a 26 bass. Cool setup idea though.

Here's a pic I took while visiting Pearl Drum Corp last week. Its a proto-type 20-ply reference series snare shell. 25mm thickness. So you can see, Pearl's 20-ply shell thickness is almost equal to a 40-ply generic keller shell.
Carl gave me a 6.5x13 Reference snare to hold it was sooooo heavy felt like 50 pounds.

heavier than the tama bell brass snare? Im thinking of picking up a ref. snare in the future, howd you like the sound? is it a little toooooo bright.

I dunno, I think Slip said the 6.5x14 TAMA Bell brass weight in at 32 pounds.
I don't really know how 'heavy' the actual Reference snare is (weight-wise), it just was real heavy to hold.
Yeah, it was somewhat on the bright side but with loads of projection, but strangely sensitive. My daughter even played it. We didn't change the tuning, but I'm guessing it could be tuned nice and phat sounding because of the shell depth. Just something about the Pearl Shell manufacturing, it didn't sound loud and poppy like a vented OC snare, it has warmth and depth, but still cranked.

These drums are the absolute pinnacle in design and manufacturing. There isn't a single part on these drums that needs improvement. Hoops, tensions rods, swivel nuts, lugs, gaskets, edges, shell design, strainer, snare wires, mounts, they are all specially designed and exclusive to the RF series and all standard features. These drums will be collectors items.

Change your bowel habit to prevent hemorrhoids
Don't wait when "nature calls", otherwise your stool can dry or harden, thus more difficult to pass.
Also, avoid straining, as well as sitting and reading on the toilet. Most of the time, it takes only 2 to 5 minutes to pass stool. Wash the anus well after the urge is gone and leave the toilet.

How does that snare sound, it looks amazing.
Surprisingly versatile. With the 25mm shell thickness, you'd think there'd be some choking, but it doesn't. It also isn't high pitched. Its very full-bodied and warm when tuned medium and sounds like a deep 6.5x14 very meaty, with excellent projection but not overtly aggressively gunshot ringing loud. I like it better than my Eric Singer to be quite honest.

Man...instead of ordering the free floater for my new SMX...I should've just spent the extra $250 and got a reference snare. Man those things are gorgeous. I played a gig last year and another band's drummer had the silver sparkle kit and he let me take the driver's seat. AMAZING sound those drums had. The snare definitely stands out!

At present, the answer is no. Only chrome hardware for the Reference Series. If you really wanted black hardware, you would need to look into the Masterworks Series.

I dont know, but I think a great set of drums like these could come in way better colors then these lame choices! Come on Pearl, give us a choice. The drums are what I dream of owning, but the colors are holding me back **$ What a killer concept for the perfect kit though. Will own a set one day. I like the Maple sessions in the green burst. for half the price too :)

Hi there, guys, drum-drum-drum-drum!! (Mozart), present!
Please, excuse me by sharing something out of the theme you're envolved now.
It's about Reference drum sounds. I'm just deciding to buy a 7 pieces kit.
I've received many help on the first aid forum to pretty understand the necessary on Reference kits. But I just like to know a few more. Exactly this... what's the kind and quality of sound every tom on a 7 kit has...? How does it sounds like...? Of course, I read sound goes according the wood used on its manufacturation. Many friends have just tried to explain it. I'll be waiting for your reply. Thanks. God bless you!

Hey ppl, im a new member and i gotta show yuz my baby... The references kinda came out like early last year over in my neck of the woods and when I saw one I fell to my knees. I eventually got around to playing a Dw collectors up against a reference and found myself baffled at the fact that this brand new amazing peice of craftsmanship, technology and 2G's cheaper sounded 10X better than this american custom job (not to be a hippocrit cuz the edge does sound awsum). About 6 months of saving and 6 months of Hard, hard dilivery waiting later I now have my hands on the kit of my dreams. Probably the best accoustic drum sound I and others have claim they've ever heard. ****en stoaked!

Hello every snare-roller on P.D.F.Yeah and they are thick (20 ply),and the sound is realy crrrisp, dry, powerfull as i like(for a wood shell).I just picked mine in root beer fade color and 14-5 size, couples days ago,and just put a genera dry on it for even crispier sound and it's a complete blast.I mean, for a wood shell, when i put it aside my warlord bell-brass.....AS i like rollracing snares iplay on,i love cut-sound,crisp and short+power.Reference delivred promises.Hats off.I did not change wires yet.Hummmm.I'm thinking about trying one of pearl reference drum-kit,just to see if they sound as cut and precise like there snares.Anyone have experience to share whit'em????DW,8,10,12,14 fast-toms,16floor,22kick,sabian paragon.

i dont understand what the new lugs do.
I don't either! I was told it helps alignment of the lugs. If the lugs are off enough to screw up alignment of getting the tuning bolts in, then there are much worse problems that need to be fixed.
2 things those lugs do is: 1 collect grime and dirt, 2 make the drums even more expensive!

The red gaksets ruins the white kit, IMO. The black looks really stunning!

That's my setup two toms off left and two floors with the ride over the kick.
Play with it and see what works best for you. Maybe its the traditional two over the kick.

There is not extra cost for hardware. The LE edition White-on-White and black-on-black ref kits come with their white and black respective hardware, all others ref kits for come with standard chrome hardware for now.
That black/red Reference looks amazing.
The red Pearl logo looks great on that black kit.

I don`t care for the white on white, but the black on black with those red gaskets and the red logo looks great!

I am assuming that you have to buyu the whole shell pack and not single drums. This would definatly be amazing, and I would also want to pick up a snare if possible

notice the other mounts on the cymbal stands? Those are for the Gretsch set. I use the old beat up cymbal stands and throw the Pearl clamps on. It's really convenient. Plus, I'm usually lazy and already have that hardware packed up (instead of the Pearl hardware, which is usually always setup in the basement). Pearl has done a great job making mounting really easy and setup less of a headache.
