I use the Evans pads and they work great. They have velcro to hold them in place and you can Re-adjust them as nessecary to change the sound. No need to buy special heads.

i don't use ANY muffling,!
drum products have come a long way . i use remo ps 3"s if you want more muffling get the coated version i use flalam slam pad and wood beaters and don't have any holes inthe front heads this combination gives me good sound without sacrificing volume. and when your playing next to guitar stacks, thats always a good thing

I'm with Slipknot 1 on this, I use the Evans pads too. They stay in place, unlike most blankets and towels, and the muffle the resonance quite well. If I need a little more muffling I just put a small towel against the front head. The Evans pad in combination with a Powerstroke 3 batter head.....that's my dream kick sound. Since my kick is a 22x16 it doesn't get obnoxiously boomy, just nice and punchy, unless of course I need a different sound for some reason, then I'll change it.
