I saw the Pearl new products brochure, fresh from the NAMM show in LA this past weekend, at my local drum shop today. You elx fans are gonna love the 2 new fade finishes! the first one isn't really a surprise, since Pearl made a "limited edition" series of these late last year(probably to test the market for the new color) and only released them to a few large, online dealers, AUTUMN FADE. It looks just like the VINTAGE FADE from the session line, but has a different color code. The other new color is also from the Sessions line, known to the srx as CRANBERRY FADE, let me introduce RUBY FADE! The other change on the elx is a new UV lacquer finish that uses an almost solvent free clear coat which allows it to be applied in thinner coats, dries quicker, and is more durable than the regular lacquer finish. It also said that the color would be more brilliant and that you will be able to see the wood grain pattern more clearly and is more resistant to discoloring over time. i wanted to be the first to let you guys know this as soon as i found out. In the ex series there is one new color, CONCORD PURPLE!! Not the same purple as COBALT MIST in the elx, it is a lighter, creamier shade of purple. they should be posting some pics of the new stuff taken at the NAMM show real soon. See ya.

Thanks for the info! Its good news. I have one of the 2002 custom kits with the autumn fade finish. Releasing the colour as a new colour will make it easier to buy add-on toms won't it? It will take a little of the prestige away from my kit though, because they originally made only 200 of them in 2002.

OWINdrummer, yes it will be easier now to get add-ons for your autumn fade kit, however i spent some time with a pearl rep today and he says the new product won't ship until april'03. they are getting a lot of orders for the new colors and from what he said they have the product made at the factory, they're waiting to hear from pearl usa how much to ship over. from your avatar, it appears u are a tool fan, such as myself. i actually bought a sonor kit last year, before i jumped on the pearl bandwagon, because danny carey plays sonor. very big mistake. i don't like the sound of the toms and their customer service is horrible. there's nothing like being promised something by some "higher-ups" at HSS and and them not delivering. the pearl rep is going to work a deal with my local store so that i can trade in my kit for a pearl kit and no one will lose on the deal. take care.

Hey Jeff, Thanks for the info. Will they be doing away with any 2002 finishes to make room for the new ones, or just adding to the line. I have a 2001 ex that I love, but they killed my finish about a month after I got the kit, so I am considering making a switch so that I can get add on toms. Any info would be helpful.

skippy, yes there are two discontinued colors from the 2002 lineup. They are EBONY MIST and BURGANDY MIST. they probably may have some of these kits and add-ons still in inventory, but they will no longer be in production. They will be trying to blow these kits out at deep discounts to retailers to make room for the new stock due in april. I hope this helps and that your color isn't one of these.

Has anyone got a picture of an Autumn Fade kit, I'm thinking of buying one but only ever seen individual drums (no good music shops around here).

Man - its tough to tell if that autumn fade is the same as the special edition vintage fade ELX from last year or not.
Did you ask the Pearl guys if there was a reason for leaving the bass drum hoops raw inside? It makes them look cheap in my opinion.
Shells are still poplar btw...
I really like the Ruby Fade...
Thanks for the pics.

Go to www.poole-percussion.co.uk/acatalog/ and look at drumkits, pearl, and there is a elx in SUNBURST but to me it looks lighter, like autumn fade IMO. Only £599!!! I want it.

Thanks for the info. Yeah i'm a big Tool fan. I'm also a big Pearl fan and a Sabian fan, even though Danny plays Sonor & Paiste. I play Pearl and Sabian because i like their stuff not because a certain pro plays them. Pearl kits **** all over other brands. (thats my opinion anyway). So you reckon it wil be a few months before i will be able to buy add-on toms for my kit. Oh well... i'll just have to wait.

Rory444, sorry but BURGANDY MIST is not a color offered for 2003. However, there are probably some add-on drums still in stock that they'll make a good deal on I would say. If not, it may be possible to still special order a drum in your color, but it would take a while to get it, prob. 4-6 months.(ask your local dealer for more info.) I may have been mistaken about the "limited edition" elx color from last year being the same as AUTUMN FADE. It appears that AUTUMN FADE starts out TOPAZ and fades to AMBER which are brighter colors than the VINTAGE FADE. It starts out more AMBER and fades to a dark BROWN. It's hard to tell in pictures, you would have to compare them in person. Hutch. that photo at poole-percussion looks more like the AMBER FADE (darker)from last year than the AUTUMN FADE (lighter) this year. Fredzs, AMBER MIST is safe for now, it is in new export brochure as a color for 2003.

I'm pretty damn sure that my custom kit is autumn fade. I've seen pics from NAMM at the pearl website and the caption underneath says autumn fade and the pic matches my kit exactly.

OWIM, it probably is the same color. It dawned on me today how much of a lighter shade of wood poplar is than maple or birch, which is probably why the colors are brighter on the ELX than on say the SRX. I can't wait to see them in person.

Now that the NAMM stuff is up on the pearl site, it looks like the link supplied by Hutch to Poole Percussion (here (http://www.poole-percussion.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Pearl__37.html) ) is actually of a different finished kit - orangey/red as opposed to the yellow/black of autumn fade. Does anyone know what finish this is? Is it a 'limited edition' one or something?

I think that the colors may be slightly different from the SRX versions. The Ruby Fade seems a bit brighter red than my Cranberry Fade SRX is. I'll post a comparison to show what I mean.
