Hello I am looking in to becoming a drummer and was wordering if any one could suggest a good drum set for a beginner. I saw that pearl had a purple drum set but in general I know absolutely nothing. Thank you for any help you can offer.

If you're just starting out, I would say to go with a 6-piece Export Select and get a good set of cymbals. Build the kit up as you build your skills.

Yes, make sure you allow PLENTY of money for cymbals... If you go with a 1200 dollar kit and 300 set of cymbals, you WILL regret it. I'd second PilgrimDrummer's suggestion and go for an export/export select, whichever finish you prefer, and spend your remaining cash on cymbals. Try massmusic (www.massmusic.net), music123 (www.music123.com) , and musiciansfriend (www.musiciansfriend.com) to check prices on drums. Try finding a local drum shop for cymbals though, it's always good to listen to what you're buying first, IMO.

Tayoko,
AntiConformist is absolutely right. My $$$ cymbals about equal the $$$ drums.
I have a Pearl SRX 6-piece set, which ran $1700, but I have about $2000 invested in cymbals. Those boom stands can get expensive too.
If you are just starting out and know nothing about drumming, what's with starting a rock band?? You're kidding...right?

Hey Tayoko-
Are you going to be moving your drums much??
If you are going to move them around a lot, I think you should get the export series drums and get some nicer cymbals because the exports have the wrap giving it more protection but not as nice of a look...if you are not gonna move your drums around much and you don't mind an extra 100 or so dollars for a nicer lookin kit...go for the export selects...they have the lacquer finish and they look nicer...
If I were you, I'd get the exports(EX), just because you don't even know if you want to pursue drumming, and it's a great set to have even if you do follow up with it for the rest of your life...I almost bought an export...but I decided that, I'm gonna stick with my piece of crap set and save up for a real nice BRX...I'm prolly not good enough to own one...but by the time I save up the money for one...I'd deserve it...
But thats just my two cents... (I know I use a lot of "...")

Thank you for all your replies. You guys have helped a lot. On the topic of local drum shops i live in the middle of nowhere so there isn't a drum shop. The only thing is the internet and mail orders, but thank you again.
