Which one do you like to use? I like the Pearl Eliminator Hi-Hat, although I don't have and can't really afford one right now:( Let's compare Hi-Hats. What Hi-Hat stand do you have? What do you like about it? I have a plain ole H-800 with a Pearl Drop Clutch, and I like the tension adjustability. What about you?

im ignorant. i must be, i have tried a zillion hi-hat stands, and they all seem to do the same thing basically....... the only one that i thought was a good design was the Tama one with only 2 feet ( the pedal was the third ) , in fact, i use a VERY old ludwig hi-hat stand for rehearsal, and that thing still moves beautifully after 40 years ! YES it is part of a '63 kit. can anyone explain what makes a good one against a bad one ??:(

Good vs. bad is a matter of opinion. Whatever feels right to you is good. super_evill, I got a Network hi-hat stand for $71 canadian before christmas. Good solid stand. Really stable (the one that came with my kit wobbled), smooth pedal, and a long enough rod for me. I tried some Yamaha, Pearl, and Gibralter stands in the store. I actually liked them less than the network, and since it was $110 cheaper then the next step up, it was the obvious choice.

I use a DW 5500d rotating three leg stand, and its really nice. honestly i cant tel the difference between that and the other top of the line models. Im just partial the the dw design.
But im goina have all pearl hardware when i get my BRX...drools..

Well, if you don't use the hihat pedal alot it shouldn't make a difference, but if you are like me, and open/close the hihat quite often then it helps if the pedal is smooth. Sometimes when I'm playing double bass I move my left foot onto the hihat and continue the beat and pedal has to be rather smooth and adjustable for that. Plush it only has two legs which is very comfortable.I used to have a dw stand( 7000 series) and I bought the eliminator when I got my mmx kit. It made a huge difference. But if you don't think it matters that much go for the cheaper pedal. Nothing wrong with that, but they aren't as adjustable. :)

I have a used Iron Cobra which I got for $80 - the kind with the 2 feet. Not sure what exact model but I love it. It's smooth, and it stays where I put it.

Oh yeah - I also have the Pearl one that comes with the Rhythm Traveler. It's nothing like my IC but it does work well and also doesn't WEIGH A TON

I just bought a new Pearl Eliminator with interchangable cams which is pretty nice, but I use an Iron Cobra kick pedal which I cant bear to be without!
Problem is, I like to have keep things the same for continuity, so - do I buy an eliminator kick pedal(I heard there quite good too) or change to a Iron Cobra hat stand?
depill
01-21-2003, 05:34 AM
Berriman, that's a tough choice. If the IronCobra is working very well for you then maybe you should change hihat stands. But the eliminator pedals are great and you should atleast try them out before buying a new hihat stand. Judging by the users on this forum the eliminators, ironcobra and dw's are the best pedals, And I agree with that. Personally I think that the eliminators with the blue cam can't be beat. But I don't play any super fast beats. I'm not into that. They were the most consistand pedals out there FOR ME.

Cheers depill.
I just tried out the Iron Cobra hat stand, and it's nowhere near as good as the eliminator!
Have borrowed a eliminator pedal to try out for a week so will let you know how I get on.

Hello,
I have two stands, pearl h985w and a yamaha hs1100 and to tell you the truth, I like the action the 1100 better, but I like the
stability and action on the three leg 985. the stability on the 1100
has to be set just right before playing and the 985 is just set and go. Both are toggle link systems which seems to be stronger in the style music I'm playing. Less wobble in the foot peddle itself.
I've used the tama , gibrater, gretch, ludwig, sonar, etc top line hh's with the chain link system and the 985 and 1100 seem to work best for me. Now bass drum peddles are a whole nother
story!
Thanks Jack

I use Tama's the most basiciest model of all. It's real fun to play, but in shortage of cash I can only dream about a new stand.
By the way, does anyone else use extra clamps with stands etc.?

Hi,
Yes I do use clamps on my pearl stands and on my yamaha stands for cymbal holders. What did you have in mind as a question to that?
Thanks Jack,

I am very fond of my Iron Cobra hihat stand. It only has two legs, & I play double bass so that makes things alot easier. I also love the way it tears down, & can fit into my hardware bag with me having to readjust it everytime I set up. For only having two legs, it is very sturdy.
I also play with clamps...I use three of of the Gibraltar cymbals arms, an old Yamaha multi clamp for my first tom, & a Tama multi clamp-to-cymbal stand (?) attachment for my china.

Hello,
I too agree that Tama has great hh stands. I had a H 85 which I believe was the top line three leg at the time which I sold along with my set of Tama performer set 2 years ago.
I'm kind of anal about asthetics when it comes to my drum
sets. Hardware and drums have to be of the same ilk.
Thanks Jack,

I've got the Eliminator stand. Smooth and works well for me.
ANYTHING that works really well. Right now I have the H2000 and I have no complaints. I voted for all four.

I have a yamaha HS1000 which I got ex-display from Drumwright for £60!!
The pedal has 2 TINY scratches on and it was a bit dusty (which took less than a minute to sort out)
Fantastic bargain and a great Hihat stand.

if you want the no frills, cheapest, lightest, and most rock solid get a Tama HH15. love mine. smooth action, and felt waaaaaaaay better than anything else out there.

My primary hi-hat stand is the Tama double braced stagemaster. I used a hacksaw to chop off the legs, and it's always clamped to the left kick drum. Since I lead with the left hand I also lopped off most of the pull rod so it doesn't get in the way of the 8" tom. I also have an older DW Turbo two legged model, but I generally only use it if I am going double pedal for a gig, which is not very often.

i've tried numerous tama, yamaha and dw stands, but my favourite is still the H-885!

After testing the elimintor powershifter kick pedal thing for over a week, I've decided to keep the dam thing and get rid of me Iron Cobra....
The feel on the eliminator is utterly fantastic.... I can say no more.

The H-800 that came with my Exports
suits me fine
I use the Pearl stands that came with my kits, pretty basic, but it's alright. I fell in love with the eliminator bass-pedal, but I am not sure if it's worth buying the hi-hat as well. It's pretty expensive, and I'm not sure if I need it....
What's your experience?

Currently using a DW5000, why aesthetics, I use 5000 kick pedals, and lets be honest, if you actually spend time setting up your pedals and hi-hat stands, most of 'em will provide the feel you want. I'm thinking about changing over to eleminator pedals, only because of the additional (cam) set up options, so I can get just that little bit further towards the perfect pedal.
I'm starting to sound like a broken record saying this but once again.
PLAY WHAT FEELS AND SOUNDS RIGHT TO YOU, and don't let anyone tell ya different.;)

i hate to break it to you pearl, but the hihat stand is the weakest point of the hardware. i prefer a yamaha flying dragon for a hihat stand. it hasnt failed me yet.

Right now I'm using the DW 5000TD Turbo Delta III dual leg model to match my DW 5000ADS Turbo's. Great heavy sturdy, durable, great action.
I've previously used the TAMA Iron Cobra dual leg, and Pearl's Eliminator hi-hat dual leg. When you're talking TAMA IC, Pearl Elims and DW 5000/9000,
you can't go wrong with any of those choices. All are the highest top quality.
You know whats sad. Im gonna buy a Pearl Eliminator hi-hat for remote. But for my main, I found that the Pacific 900 series 2 leg suited me the best. Crazy huh
