I'm looking to upgrade from an export select kit to a masters kit. The technical specs on the MHX series seems to be a perfect fit for what I'm looking for. Since they only come in one finish I'd like to see what the finish looks like as opposed to the color chips on the web site.
Does anyone out there have any pics of their MHX kit that they would like to share?
Any help would be appreciated! Any and all advice or opinions would also help greatly.
Thx.
Hey there
I am with ya. I dont' think much ppl will buy this set coz there is only one color to choose from. I guess you like the low volume of the drums compared to the others. Same here

Thats what im gona get the MHX blows every thing away in my opion. I dont have any pics sorry. I have a frend that has one he's a dealer any way when I saw those butes I had to get me some of those they sound awesome. If you like colors then thay are not for you but if you like the look of natural red mahogny
you will love them. I cant wate to get mine.
Are they really quieter? I thought they had more punch.....
yes, because it has a lower volume. still thinking if i should get one. since only one color.. is a tough choice. i dont' think this kit is very popular. since most ppl now care about looks a lot.

lower pitch drums don't cut through as much, but technically they're not 'quieter'. i guess i shouldn't talk, since i haven't played the mhx drums.
you probadly thing is quieter, but i guess is just the lower volume it makes. is like record a drum solo or anything simple beat with a cheap tape recorder. it the higher toms the best, but you can barely hear the bass drum.

What is about the MHX that got you interested in the first place?
That interest will allwayse bee there and if you get another kit for collor sake, you will bee dissatasfied in the long run. The picture
at the web site does not do them justice the collor of the drums is dark any way and does not show the exlent laquerd finish or
the eye poping grane of the wood they are a visual treat I think
sory I dont spell well but I know what i'm talking about.
All I can say is I love that kit! I will take some pics as soon as I can and post them for you. The one pic I have is in the wrong format and is WAY too small to see the kit good. They are beautiful and sound great as well! Rich.

Great motto Rich.
What are the sizes of you MHX? :)
Hey JACKSON, Thanks for the compliment on my Motto. The sizes are as follows: 10,12,13 rack toms, 16 & 18 floor toms, 16x22 bass. I use two different snares none of which are mahogany. A 12x7 Maple and a free floating brass 14x6.5 Thanks for asking! GOD Bless, Rich.

I'm trying to buy a MHX kit my self.
Why did you not get the matching snare?
I wonder because I dont know what to do eather.
Because Mahogany gives a deeper sound I decided on Maple and Brass snares for my kit making the snare high and bright. I tried sending you some pics last night but they were too large an image. As soon as I get more pics I will scan them on under a different format and send them to you. Rich.

I know you can order birch kits in maple finishes, and vice versa, but can you order the MHX in BRX/MMX/MHX finishes? A special order, with added wait time obviously, but is it possible?

From what I read, the mahogony wood is a deep brown, and would probably not stain well--except with a red stain. Maybe you could get them with a natural clear coat, and just work with the straight brown color.
I've also read that mahogony has a kind of deep, coarse grain, making it difficult to get a smooth laquer finish, so painted colors are not easy.
That said, can anyone here say, "wrap"? Take a look at this site:
www.sambarnard.net
It'll cost a little bit to do a kit, but it's supposed to be easy, and there are a lot of choices to work with. If you call and ask, they'll send a pack of samples of the actual wraps. The stuff they sent me blew me away, and I may yet wrap my kit. Worth a look!

I dont think you can get MHX in any other finish with masters srs
but you can in mw's for that matter you may as well get some custom sizes and shell thicknesses. Because that woulk bee alot
of money just for a finish. I happon to like the mahogany finish
it's wonderful I think, but I would like pearl to add a 26 BD to the
Masters srs. I may start a pole about that, Maby pearl will if there
is enough responce.
I have been putting new heads on my MHX kit tonight and yes the shell wood is very dark. It is my understanding that Pearl picked RED for that reason as someone stated earlier. However the finish is absolutly beautiful! Speaking of heads. I put Hydraulics blues on all the toms and bass. The toms sound great but the bass sounds like crap! My son got an EQ-3 for his ELX -bass and it sounds like a cannon! Deep with Guts! Any suggestions for my MHX bass? Has anyone tried the E-Mad by Evans? Thanks, Rich.
Hi guy, I chose not to get the matching snare because of the darker sound of the wood. I like really bright/ high pitch snare drums. By the way, read my thread on here about MHX Bass heads. Don't make that mistake. Oh well, I'll try something else.
Rich.

Thanks Rich I will probley go with a Ludwig supra phonic snare like
Bonham Thanks.
Jesus is Lord
I am not familiar with that snare but i'm sure its a good one. I wanted you to know I took pictures of my MHX kit tonight. I will get them developed as soon as I finish the role. Thanks, Rich.
GREAT MOTTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rich.
I sent this yesterday but it did not show up on the forum so maybe I screwed up. I'll try again. The reason I chose not to go with the matching snare is because of the darker sound of Mahogany. Therefor I chose Maple and brass shells. I like my snare to sound very bright. Thanks, Rich.
I just wanted you guy's to know I took pics of my MHX kit last night and today up close under good lighting so you can see the color, the wood grain and finish real good. I also took pics of my son's ELX kit. I have taken them to be developed and as soon as I get them back I will post them for you. So hold tight and lets see how they turn out. Rich.

Hi Rich - I use the EMad by Evans (on my DW 20x22), and it sounds phat, deep but still has that mid resonance boom.
I think it would work nicely on your MHX.
