I am looking into getting a double pedal for my 6 piece export series...just looking for some advice around the room about which brand, model to get...cost is no issue. The one that has the quickest response is the ba-boom-ba-boom-boom that I'm looking for.:p

Either the Pearl Eliminator or the Tama Iron Cobra hp900 series pedals. The DW 5000 series pedals are nice too.

Are the distances between the two pedals the same between the makes? can you get rods that are shorter or longer, I prefer a closer stance with my pedals.

Not sure about the rods. They are close as far as smoothness and speed but the Tama is faster from what Ive heard. It does not have all the cams like the Eliminator does.

I must be missing something, cause I don't have a double pedal. But having cams slows it down?

Although pearl eliminators are fantastic pedals they are extremely quick and just as responsive. This sounds like a good thing yes, BUT given that you have not played on a double pedal before these features will not be of much use. (No offence). However the lower models that pearl sell are also great and probably would be better for you to begin on, once you've developed good technique on your feet then upgrade to eliminator!!! Just quickly, the eliminator pedals come with different sized cams for different responce and power,(the cam is what the pedal chain or belt runs on). The cams are interchangeable for the feel that you want. Go to the product section of the website to check out the quality gear!

All the best, keep on hittin'!

If money is no issue, why not get the smoothest best pedal on the market right of the hop... it will make learning easier for him and just think back to the old days The first double pedals we/ i used how sluggish and crappy they were... i wouldn't recommend that to anyone... as far as the cams go, the booklet that comes with the pedals tells all i think about he cams. But one thing would recommend is learn with the black cam on first as it is just a straight forward cam and best to practice with ... as far as the Iron Cobra not needing extra cams, Pearl doesn't NEED the extra cams either, they are just designed to swap them for whatever style your playing. I know in the past I have had two sets of DW pedals, one with the regular cam and another with the accelerator cam. The reason I think Pearl designed it this way is if someone plays more then one style of music, which I do, then changing the cams makes a world of difference in the feel of the pedal for what your playing. I do alot of studio work with jazz players and rock too, and my band is a straight up heavy rock band, but in the studio with the jazz guys, or live with them, i choose a lighter feeling cam. True enough if you only play in a rock band, then yes u don't need them but why not get them when they are the same price as the iron cobras... to me its u get more for your dollar. I like the iron cobras too, tried them out and they are nice.

The cam is an integral part of the pedal. It's the part that the chain rests on and is attatched to. When you push down with your foot, you pull the chain. The chain is attatched to the cam, which is on the same truss rod as the beater sleeve.

Pictures anyone?

the pearl eliminator can be configured to any feel you want in a pedal.
1.Quad beater has four sides to choose from. I use the IC beater or (speedball beater by www.puresoundpercussion.com)
2. Beater angle adjustment with accurate gauges.
3.changeable Cam's-red (fast),white (linear), and blue (accellerating power), black (standard linear) , and two new ones yellow and purple can be special ordered as the EPAP-1 kit.
4. chain length adjustment- shorter or longer length changes foot board angle.
5. choice of belt or chain drive switchability. i like the belt
6. power shifting foot board adjustment ability.
7. easy to adjust hoop clamp. nice big wing-nut.
8. friction plate with rubber buttons that you turn around or not.
9. includes a nice black denim case with pockets. (not cheap plastic)
10. a toe stop comes with the pedal. it is removeable so you can use the full board for heel toe technique foot work if you prefer.
11. most readily available replacement part's at stores all over the world. and pearl's best customer service.

ALL double pedals come with an adjustable length connecting rod, consisting of 2 shafts, one inside the other, usually adjustable with a drum key. The maximum and minimum connecting shaft lengths MAY vary between brands but not by a whole lot.
