i've heard good things about the p-201, can you tell me a little more about it, and maybe compare it to the tama hp200 (iron cobra jr.)

Thanx

Yeah seriously!
I play a Pearl p100 at my lessons, and that is one of he fastest pedals i've ever played. I'm getting my second bass drum in a few months, and until i can afford some real knock-out pedals, i might just buy a couple of those babies! I was in utter disbeleif when i realized that this pedal was smoother and quicker than my current pedals which are suposed to be a higher line.

It just shows you that my higher end pedals from a few years ago can be beaten by an entry-level pedal today. Keep up the improving gear Pearl!:D

I played an older p100, a 2000 i think it was, i HATED that pedal, felt awkward and slugish....

I use pearl eliminator doubles with the strap and blue cam. But i recorded an album with Iron Cobra velo glides. very smoooth. but just. . .pearls are so much faster and a you can customize them to your self much more than the tamas.

Carl Peterson

It all depends how its set up too guys..Sluggish could be a loose spring or bad cams..

Lars1991

To JonathanAKAGod: a tama velo glide is a hi hat stand. tama only has power glide, flexi glide, and rolling glide. unless you are talking about your hi hat stand

A Flexi-Flyer is one of my favorites too..(early 90's)..

I agree Carl, my old P100 that I got with my '97 Export Select was a wicked pedal.

I'm using an Elimator and I'll never switch. I use the DWs at my lessons and I hate them. I haven't used a Tama but I don't think it would be too cool to put a Tama pedal on a Pearl set.

I really really love the P100..For any of you beginner's or like me..playing 32 yrs...You'll LOVE it..That bad boy rocks..

I think the foot board on the p100 should be rough, i find that with the way it has no gripping at all, my foot will slide up during play. I think it either needs to have better grip or a toe stop to keep your foot from sliding up.

Yeah, i agree. its a great pedal for the money but it could be even better if you added some rubber on the footboard. that would definately improve the pedal a lot.

I use the P202TW and have been very happy with it. I like the DW5000 pedals (especially the smoothness of the ball bearing hinge joint), but it is not nearly as flexible/adjustable as the P202.

I'm very intreagued by the P2002, especially with the option of strap drive, which IMHO is more smooth and responsive than chain.

I've always...in 32 years, have had strap drive pedals...They are smooth and dependable in my opinion

lars. . .i messed that one up. .hah. i was just thinking of that strap they have. i meant the flexi-glide. hah. . .my bad. the whole strap thing. too many different pedals and stands.

I have a P2000 single, and a Pacific DP402 (double) and i must say, the pacific is smoother, though slower and sluggish, but the p2000 isn't as smooth, but a lot faster (black cam, not a lot of tension)

I use an iron cobra jr on my forms! gack! I like it quite a bit, and the case is a godsend.. but i cant seem to get the slave to give me enough rebound, and i've cranked the spring all the way up! time to get a new spring i think. If I have the cash eventually, i'll likely go to an eliminator double pedal.

Actually, I have two bass drums, and on those I use two eliminators. Honestly, the pedal does not make as much difference as the foot, the throne, and your posture, relaxation, and comfort with your technique. All that aside, the eliminator rocks!

As for the cheaper pedals, I keep my old pearl single pedal that came with my 96 or 97 export kit for gigs that I don't want to take a nice pedal to. It plays good, but it needs a new spring.

Good God man, what's the deal! Everyone knows Pearl pedals are the best! The only hardware I have that is not Pearl is my Tama Leverglide hi-hat stand, and if Pearl made one, I would sell the Tama! The only other BD pedals I would ever consider would be a Ludwig Speed King or Ghost. They might be worth replacing my Pearl for. Might! Cheers! Leonard

The beater on the iron cobra is the best in the industry

Pyrotechnic

I like the powershifter feature, where you can put the slave in the C position and the master pedal in the B postion to make up for some of the lost power on the slave side.

I still like dw pedals myself, but the pedal doesn't make you a better drummer, correct stool height plays more of a factor then the pedal, at least when you compare these 2 brands.

I just purchased the Eliminator double pedals. I have also purchased a set of DW 5000AD pedals off Ebay. I am hoping that the Eliminators outperform the DW's as I have always liked the DW equipment. Every once in a while I hear DW getting knocked. I just purchased a BRX kit and all Pearl hardware. I hope I am as happy with it as I was with my DW hardware. Nothing against Pearl but DW does make some nice stuff. I would be hard pressed to say anything negative about their drums, pedals or hardware.

I have to agree with you on that. This may be blasphemy, but I bought an Iron Cobra beater a few months ago and put it on my Pearl P100 pedal, and I think this pedal is even better than it was before!

I have had both at once, the DW tri-delta's, and the eliminator.... the eliminator is less work and much more versatile then DW's. The DW'came with heel riser plates, which I thought were useless, and DW's are almost double the price( 799.95).
I didn't pay that because I bought them from an estate salte on e bay, the footboards on the Pearl's are wider, and DW you have to buy another plate to put on top of the DW to make it wider.
Also I have many scars on my toes, when playing bare foot, from my dw's where the teeth from the sprocket, cut my toes... the teeth are cut too far down the sprocket... and DW has a tendency of blowing hinges alot too... i know I replaced a few on my DW single I had.
My point is, once I got the eliminators, the DW's went in the paper immediately.

DW( Drum Workshop, or Drain Wallet) :D

I had my DW pedals for over 4 years and didn't have problem one with them. As I said, I hope I have just as good of luck with the Pearls. DW's hardware (stands and such) are very beefy. I have yet to see Pearl's stands but have heard good things. I have a rack which once I get my tom arms I will be putting together. The boom arms seem pretty solid but cannot draw an opinion as I have yet to set them up. I thought the pedal on my DW's were just as wide if not a bit wider than the Eliminators. ??? Once again, sorry but I cannot knock DW's drums or harware....nor do I knock Pearls. I guess my suggestion would be to get both and try them. Keep one and send the other back.

Dumb question here, If I get the strap eliminator,
can I just change it to chain if I want to?

Carl Peterson
08-16-2002, 10:01 AM
Yes...you can convert..not a dumb question at all..You DO NEED THE CORRECT KEYBOLT (screw) WHICH IS LONGER THEN THE CHAIN TO MOUNT THE STRAP..;)

Drums1234
08-16-2002, 01:08 PM
Carl,

What about the other way around. if you have a chain drive can it be converted to a strap drive? Thanks.

Wickerman
08-16-2002, 02:46 PM
Yes I have the straps for mine and they work fine...I ahve both chain and straps

Carl Peterson
08-16-2002, 03:24 PM
Yes..as long as you have the correct keybolt to hold it in..

How much does the chain and bolt cost to buy seperately?

Carl Peterson
08-19-2002, 08:41 AM
The chain part number is CCA5 and list for $20.00
The belt part number is BCA1 and list for $15.00

You can get them through any Pearl authorized dealer.

When I bought the straps, the keybolt, and screw came with them... so I kept the others and put them away with the chains... and BTW, the belts are much beter then the chain in my opinion

Carl Peterson

Cool...I'm a strap guy myself..

i have yet to play a good strap pedal, whats the difference in feel and/or speed? thx

Wickerman
08-19-2002, 12:05 PM
ok.. I thought the chai was "it"...I just piut the belts on my eliminators, and the difference is night and day. It is far lighter first of all, and no "lagging" from the chain, and no work at all t get the beater to contact that head at all... doing triplets withthe kick, no effort...I kept the chains too though.. after all the chains are a small fortune to replace ( 48.00 per pedal).

Carl Peterson
08-19-2002, 12:15 PM
I grew up playing in the 1970's..there was no chain pedals back then..It was metal or strap..Strap to me is fast and smooth..Like one footed triplets..Smooth like glass..Im sure I could get used to a chain driven pedal..Im just so happy and used to a strap,I have no need to go elsewhere..:D

I have the chain drive double pedal Eliminators. What all part #'s do I need to convert them over to belt?

Thanks.

I have the eliminators right now man, man r they smooth or what!
I wanted to try out the IC, but my local music store didn't have it. My friend told me the IC suck though, after you play awhile, it is very hard to control and you will keep going faster, can't play slow stuff!
