WELL AXIS AND YAMAHA HAVE BOTH PROOVED THAT DIRECT DRIVE IS THE SH*T....SO I THINK PEARLS ONLY NATURAL CHOICE WOULD BE TO BEAT THEIR ASSES AND COME OUT WITH THE DIRECT DRIVE ELIMINATOR...IT WOULD BE KING FOR SURE...I LOVE MY STRAP DRIVE BUT DIRECT IS SO SWEET...I DONT LIKE AXIS AND I KNOW PEARL COULD MAKE IT THE BEST....GENE???OR AND R&D GUYS????HAS PEARL TAKEN THIS INTO CONSIDERATION??EXCUSE MY DOUBLE POST BUT I KNOW IT WILL GET ALOT MORE HITS HERE...AND PEARLS HARDWARE ONLY GOES HAND IN HAND WITH THEIR INNOVATIVE MASTERWORKS...

I found Axis pedals to be very fast, but can't generate the power of a cam pedal. Maybe their newer pedals have solved this, and I haven't tried the Yamahas. If Pearl wanted to offer another pedal option, then I'm all for it.

Very good idea. Pearl staff, please pay attention. Could be a great benefit to offer a line such as this one. :)

I dig the Yamaha Direct drive, but i love the long footboard on the Axis, as i play heel-toe on a single pedal, its faster for me to have the extended foot plate, so how about a straight board pedal from Pearl? I can't use my heel very well on Pearl pedals. The direct drive has a great feel to it too.

Here“s not direct drive

Żou can see that in direct drive pedal the metal flap that pulls the beater is attached direct to the beater and not to the axle like in Eliminator

I'd definitely like it as an OPTION, just like the Longboard is an option for Axis... I'd like Pearl longboards too LOL

ludwig speed kings are awesome pedals lol may not be the sturdiest things over time, but they are still awesome. the yamaha direct drive is a pretty awesome pedal, really fast has that light, "efficient" feel to it. gona get a belt soon for my eliminator so lookin forward to tinker around with that =P

ONLY a direct drive eliminator will take the idea of buying a DW 9002 out of my poor mind!!!!

OK, you guy's may not realise this but a direct drive pedal is a very old concept. Some of the very 1st pedals ever made were direct drive. (They call the bass drum the kick drum because there were no pedals untill the early 20's.) I have an OLD Rogers pedal from the 40's that is direct drive, & it's nothing to write home about. There is much less leverage in a direct drive pedal so it doesn't hit as hard & has less travel. Some say that the shorter travel makes it more responsive, but the trade off is not enough for me to give up my Powershifter.
Look up some older drum companies (EX: Ludwig, Rogers & Slingerland) & check out there archives. they used to use some pretty interesting stuff back in the day...

i love my eliminators and now that using direct drive would mean no red or blue cam(and the others for that matter) but....

HAVE YOU TRIED THE NEW YAMAHA'S??????

i got to pull two right out of the box while i was teching for billy cobham...they were'nt even in stores yet....

.

mmmm thats the truth...DIRECT DRIVE=NO DIFFERENT CAMS!!!...about yamaha's personally i don't like any yamaha product, just with the exception if the Dave Weckl sig. snare...Yamaha drums is ONLY a departament of a giant company...i prefer a company COMPLETELY dedicated to drums...no motorcycles, or speakers, or jet ski's, or whatever...JUST DRUMS!!!!...or even percussion but just instruments...soon i'll post a big research that i made on yamaha stuff....well no more...but........

I REALLY like the DW 9000 pedal concept and at the same time i love that Eliminator concept...i'll buy one of them ...but i think that i'll have to make something to give both a try to make my choice!!!

They should make a special cam with the direct drive mechanism attached, so you can just slide it on if you want it.

From what I can figure out, the red cam is about as close to direct drive as you need... people's complaints about the red cam seem to correlate very highly with people's complaints about direct drive :D

I'm continuing my campaign for Pearl Longboards!!! Pearl's versatility is unmatched already, I wanna see it go one step further AGAIN.

I just got a direct drive Yamaha 9410 double and I love it. I grew up on Speed Kings so it felt like Homecoming Week after 6 months of playing my Iron Cobra.

9410DD Likes:
-Just feels easier and more natural to play, compared to Iron Cobra, which I fiddled with constantly and only got it to feel "ok"
-"Real" beaters sound better
-Smooth pedal surface better for barefoot playing
-Cheaper than Axis
-Left pedal has beater holder, so I could play a foot-cowbell on that side. Left pedal also has hoop clamp.

Dislikes:
-Some nuts/bolts seem "parts-bin-y";
-Hoop-clamp fine adjustment is hard to get to.
-Collapsible pedals- great for transport, not so great for setting up. In frustration I removed one of the carpet spike bolts and replaced it with a bolt, so the whole thing pedal will stay "together" while I mount the thing to the bass drum

I guess I'm the Odd Bird - the whole flock (drum industry) is flying towards chain-drive, but it doesn't feel "natural" to me (and I ride motorcycles, so I loved the "idea" of chain drive ... ?? ) I'm not so impressed with DW's stuff, Axis is too $$ (but the Longboard might be interesting), my only other hope was Pearl's Eliminator, but when I saw the Yamaha, I ordered it the next day. Couldn't be happier!

I've got lots a Pearl bits in my kit, but like most of you, I'm not uber-loyal to any one brand .... The Iron Cobra is a great solid pedal, very smooth, well thought out, and it takes a beating well. My only problem is that it's a chain-drive. I'm no engineer, but I think there is some subtle difference in the mechanics of DD vs. Chain, and I like the DD. YMMV

I put some thought to this idea of replacing the chain and cam with a direct drive system, and it does seem possible. It is made infinitly easier by pearl's removal cam system, which means that a mount including a pivot could be fitted easily to the pedal. The ability to swap between chain and strap helps as well. I've drawn a quick picture to illustrate this idea. If the cam and chain were removed, a mount with pivot could be clicked into the existing cam mount, and a direct drive link attached to this. The other end of the dd link could fit into the footboard pivot where the chain or belt normally fits. The only issue would be side to side flex, which does not affect the cams as much as it would a direct drive design. This could be solved by making sure the dd cam and link fitted very precisely into the cam mount. It would need a bit of work, but this is the basic idea. I'm sure pearl have considered however.

Ok, so i cant get it attached. If someone can host it, please PM me

maybe pearl will make one in the future to eliminate the competition in hardware once and for all.

Ever since I gave up my Speed King, I've been unable to get a good feeling pedal.

I vote an enthusiastic YES!

Imagine this:

A Pearl Powershifter Eliminator with all the current specs plus a longboard version and direct drive and heavier springs included. Longboards version would be a BIT more expensive, while a pedal including all the drives (belt/double chain/direct) would be a BIT more expensive aswell, but still beneath the $300 for the double pedal mark.

You could have double chain, belt AND direct drive all in your standard/longboard version. And with the free bag that comes with it, I think Pearl would conquer the bass drum pedal market once and for all.

I have a chain drive Eliminator, and am fine with it. But if you guys talked Pearl into a direct-drive system, that would be OK, too.

Frankly, I'm still waiting for a BB-3 cover...

i personally hate direct drive pedals, when i played for our highschool's jazz band we had one and it sucked! Its was a Speedking and everytime i used it i thought i would break it...
