Hello guys,
I am a Dutch semi-professional percussion player, part of a band and love it. I now have wooden congas, but.... consider to buy Fibre ones. Please give me your experiences in comparison to wood:
concerning sound, weight !! or other things you can tell me. Looking forward to read your advice!!

Welcome to the forum! I can't help you either.
Wood is great but it has its drawabacks....I personally use fiberglass for various reasons, first, they are supposed to be "less prone" to break if the drums are dropped or fall...second, their volume is higher that wood. Useful while playing live.
Wood with all its advantages does not have that.....Your decision here depends "how purist" are you. Some people prefer wood no matter what and believe it or not some people prefer fiberglass no matter what.....

Thanks Ray !!
especially for live performance I heard fibre congas are great. You confirm it again. Because I want to save my back I would like to get information about the weight of fibre congas in comparison to wooden. No information in any catalogue. I think I have to take a scale with me to the shops (percussionists keep on carrying !!!)
Do you play the Elite Fiber glass ones???
muchas gracias por tu respuesta !!
Cheesepercus,
I think wood is slightly heavier than fiberglass. I have not verify it but I think that is correct.

Cheese -
I use Pearl's fiberglass Elite congas and I think they're great. They are a little lighter, louder, and somewhat more durable than the wood ones.

Cheesepercus (a good friend of mine) finally managed to find a shop over here which has both wooden and fibre conga's in stock. The fibre ones are definately much lighter in weight and he ordered them.
I understood he will pick them up tomorrow. No doubt he will be a happy camper cause they are Pearl. He told me the focus is much better then on the wooden ones.
I just got the word my Icon curved racks arrived. The MHX Masters I ordered are expected in the next 2 weeks ... man, the past weeks passed slower then May-June-July together ...
