Can anyone tell me if Pearl Made Masters Studio 4 ply Birch?,,,,,
I look in current catalogues and only see 6 ply. My 16x16 in Opal white has a Masters Studio birch tag but is 4 ply with Reinf. Rings.
Could Pearl have made 4 ply birch when Opal was a current color? Thanks
The BRX series (birch) is 4 ply with 2 ply reinforcing rings top and bottom, the MMX (maple) is the same. The MRX (also maple) is 6 ply.

Actually the current BRX is 6 ply only. In the past I believe they offered 4 ply with reinforcement rings, but no longer.

The 4 ply Masters birch was called the MBX and was made from 1993 to 1996.
They can still be special ordered.

Gene, Stu, and Tom.
Would not have had to ask that 4ply question if my source of drums didn't send me a mixed set instead of a Matched one as advertised. I have kind of a Unique blend I must admit, 6ply Maple rack toms, 4 ply maple kick, and 4 ply birch 16 floor tom.
Thanks again guys

Gene replied that the 4 ply with reinforcing ring Birch drums were made 1993-6.
I hear so very little about these drums or that anyone owns them.
Do any members here have the 4 ply birch kits? If so, what is your impression of them over the current 6 ply offerings?
Also what colors were availiable then? My 1 MBX is in White MIST
Thanks

i had a MBX snare sometime ago and played mbx drums too .. i liked the sound .. i think they sounded fatter than the Brx because of the thinner shells ..
