hey everyone im not to familer with the percussion line for pearl but i hear its one of the best!!!! my question is i play drums and i have a pearl set brx to be exact and my bro who plays guitar wants to make a solo with percussion with me which i thought was a great idea and we play hardrock kind of music. so im asking what percussion stuff should my bro get and what should the set up be thanks so much!!!!!
More of a salsa guy than rock, but it makes sense that if your bro wants to do a percussion solo, while carrying a guitar prior to getting into the drums, and to "compete" with your drums, congas or timbales will do the trick. The congas, of course, with a stand. Those instruments you could set up close to you and he could walk to them and do "his solo" with you.
Both will be great but in case of volume and "his hands", timbales could be more suitable. Timbales are played with sticks and probably your bro is not ready to get his hands hurting if he has no been initiated in playing hand drums (while competing for volume with you). You could set him up a cymbal or bell so he could effects in his solo, if he wants to....
A good set of timbales that will serve the purpose here could be a "mid level or beginners set", preferrably in steel for volume, like Pearl Primero's. (If you want to go for the gusto, go Pearl Elite Marc Quinones Signature Series).
If he wants to "conga", a set of Pearl Primeros could do the trick...
I tend to recommend pro sizes and styles for somebody who want to get serious about percussion but since it appears is just part of the "show", with no intention for further use by him, a mid level set could be good. If not, go pro in your equipment.
Other "percussion toys" might not be necessary but in case there are several....
Hope this helps....Saludos!
