If Pearl would offer a wood mountable tambourine, would you still go for the plastic one they already offer?. I am asking this having in mind that the only variable is the sound. Please do not include concerns as to durability, colors, etc.

Hi -
I'd like Pearl to make a wooden tambourine for hand playing, but I prefer plastic for a "mounted" tambourine simply because a mounted tambourine needs to be able to endure being hit with a stick!

You have a good point. But remember that I was asking only having in mind the sound, because you never know what Pearl, or other brands might come up with. They always have a solution for everything. I personally like the original wood sound. Feel free to vote.

if they made a wooden one, somehow reinforced with maybe metal or bracets, i would definately get it. wooden ones either have a more genuine sound or a more fake/cheap sound- it probably heavily depends on the cymbals too. but i agree, wood would be awesome!!

Check out the PTB10 TomBourine http://www.pearldrum.com/effects.asp
This is a 4-ply wood shell with a standard 10" drumkey tunable head. I developed this with the drumset in mind, it's a little heavy for a lot of handheld work, but yo can lose the head for a lighter feel.
Thanks,

I currently have a the black plastic RhythmTech DST in my rig right now, though it's a percussion rig--I'm mostly playing with my hands. I would think that a wood mountable would give you additional sound with a stick--the sound of wood on wood. I guess it would depend if you wanted that sound or not. With the plastic, you do get some impact sound, but it's mostly just the jangles, rather than an almost cross-stick sound.
Though that might sound cool, too.

For a beatring plastic is perfect (possibilkity for rubber protecting rim on top).
For advanced percussionist who have all techniques to play tambourin wood is perfect, BUT if you cannot swing your hands very rapidly, the plastic moon-shaped ones are easy to handle. Try in the shop and find out. :)
