I would choose "other". I play UFIP cymbals. Great italian brand. Actually I have only one UFIP (china) and others are SABIAN B8. But UFIPs sound so cool that I'll replace SABIAN with other UFIP soon.

I use Paiste. and i started using them because i saw that a lot of pro drummers used Paiste so i tryed them. I think they have a nice strong sound to them. I am gonna get some Zildjian ZXT hi hats in about 2 weeks though.

I have :

-20" ride
-14" hats
-16" crash
-10" splash

all Sabian Pro Sonix.

I love them, but the ride rings just a bit to much, so I may replace with a Zildjian A Ping ride, one of those days, and I also need another crash, but quieter, cuz' the Sabian is really good for rock, but I also sometimes play lighter rock, and jazz.
I like Paiste innovations and Zildjian A customs, so my next crash could be one of these.;)

I've actually found the opposite the case. Zildjians seemed to crack too easily for me, and I prefer the sound Paiste have, as well as the fact that they are far more consistant from cymbal to cymbal as compared to Zildjian.

I used to play Sabian, but I'm currently in the process of switching to Zildjian. I saw that a lot of pro's prefer Zildjian to Sabian.

I've read some other replies on the other messages about your cymbals cracking!?!?!

Dont's meant o sound harsh, but you should really make sure that you select the right cymbal for the right sound of music you wish to play, cymbals like Zildjian, Sabian and Paiste are just to expensive to break!

ARGH!

I've been looking at new ride cymbals (most websites have audio clips of the different cymbal sounds. makes shopping so much easier!) and I settled on either the Sabian Pro Sonix 20" or the Sabian Phil Collins signature ride. Both have a really nice warm, bright tone with good stick definition. Not too clangy and no dark overtones. Very clean all rounders.

To tell the truth I wasn't too happy with any of the Zildjian rides. They make some great effects cymbals, though!

Check out Bosphorus for a really raw and layered sound.

I'm a Zildjian guy but I've heard and enjoyed some Sabian cymbals. I use Zildjians cuz I love the K and K Custom line! I think that K's and K Customs are simply unique and inimitable.

All high-end cymbals from Sabian, Zildjian and Paiste shouldn't be breaking easily. You break cymbals by:
1. Tigthening them too much on the stand. You gotta let them be a bit loose.
2. Hitting them the wrong way. Avoid hitting a cymbal such as a crash or splash directly as you would hit a drumhead, hit it at an angle and slide your stick to the side (sort of an L motion with your stick).
3. Choosing the wrong cymbals for your musical situation. Don't buy an A Paper-Thin Crash if you're gonna play Black or Death Metal.

i must agree paiste is by far the most consistant brand that ive ever tried...but its rare that u find a "bad" sounding zildjian, its just that some are better than others. Then again, the good zildjians are way awesome. as for the cracking thing, ive never had a zildjian or paiste crack, so i dont really have any opinions on that.

I play Zildjian A and A Custom and 1 Sabian Hand hammered. I think that quality of both are perfect. You shouldnt be breaking cymbals, If you've broken a cymbal it might be because you're hitting them wrong. You should hitting the edge of the cymbal from above not hitting into the side of the cymbal. And you should never follow through with your hit, you should pull the stick back upon impact. I learned alot about how to hit cymbals from reading this on the Paiste site (http://www.paiste.com/articles/cymbal.usage.shtml)

I have Sabian's all around except for a Wuhan China. I like Sabian and Zildjian but I find the Sabian is a bit better priced. I don't think there is too much difference in the quality of both these great cymbal companines. They use very similar, if not exact techniques in cymbal making...both companies have a lot of history as they the Zildjian's son's, they couldn't get along so they split and the one brother created Sabian.
My cymbal lineup:
I have B8 14" high hits and a 16" B8 crash.
14" AAX Dark crash
16" AAX Studio crash
18" AAXExplosion crash
21" AAX Metal Ride
6" & 8" AA splashes.
18" Wuhan Chinese
Lots of fun mounted all around my exports.

I'm with Slipknot1. I play Zildjian Z customs, but no matter
what brand u choose the most important thing, besides the
sound obviously, is the thickness. U can't expect a thin cymbal to withstand heavy playing.

Cymbals need not to crack easily. It depends on the type of metal that was used to make. Second thing is, it depends on the player on how he hits it. Cymbals have limitations. You just cant get a 14inch Thin Crash to sound as loud a parade cymbal right? My advice for you guys is to get a cymbal that are suitable for the style that you play. If you play rock, go for heavy, thick and loud sounding. If you play jazz get a thin and smaller sizes of cymbals.

As for me these are the one I use currently

2 sets 14" A. Zildjians Hihats (both of them from My father bought in 1980) one regular and the other as a remote.

16" K. Zildjian Dark Custom Crash (2002)
15" A. Zildjian Crash(1994)
14" Hand Hammered Sabian crash (1996)
22" A. Zildjian Ride (1980, old but very raw and loud!)
20" B8 Sabian Ride

to top it all off, My kit is the ever reliable Pearl Export!

Mohadiib1

I've never cracked a cymbal in my life, whatever the brand. Now I use:
15" med/thin Sabian AA crash
17" med/thin Sabian AA crash
18" med Pearl crash/ride
20" med Sabian B8/Pro ride
14" Pearl hi-hats

Gonna add an 18" or 20" china
and maybe a 10" splash
another 15" or 16" crash

I use SABIAN only. I just bought an 18" Hand Hammered Thin Chinese a few days ago and i love it. I also have a 10" AAX splash 14" B8 hats, 16" & 18" B8 crashes and a 20" B8 ride. I desperately want to upgrade my B8s to AAs or AAXs but i will have to save for a while. :(

When I first started playing I had all Zildjian. I kept breaking my 18" rock crash. Went through 3 of them. All cracked around the bell. I was young...probably hit too hard. Either way, I play Sabian now and I love them. Have yet to break one...neither has my one year old who only plays with the big black stick(Ahead Matt Sorum) and just wails away at the 16" China. My neighbors must love it...

Sabian Pro 14" Hats
Sabian Pro Sonix 20" Ride
Sabian Pro Sonix 16" Crash

Recently upgraded from Paiste 302's which lasted a very good time from when I first started drums over 5 years ago... I had an awful playing style (just smash at it, had it on the stand really tight as well which put it under a lot of pressure) but they lasted very - it's just a coincidence that both the crash and the top hat cracked at the same time [well, when I say the crash cracked, I mean that 8 cracks appeared at once and soon after I noticed them a chunk of it fell out - it never sounds the same again with metal ringing against metal]. After all I put them through though I'm amazed at how well they did.

I know the Pro / Pro Sonix aren't the best, but they're great for the price [they sound amazing, but i have very little experience with cymbals] and a good start for gigging. The rest of the band is not allowed anywhere NEAR these new kit and cymbals (they really smashed away at my last set, broke drum sticks, trashed the skins - they're not allowed to even think of playing them).

When I add a crash it will either be Sabian or Zildjian, but I'll have to test some in the shop. It's a shame Paiste cymbals aren't in good supply over here in the UK (supply is good in USA and Europe, just they haven't got a good distributor for us) because I'd like to have the choice to not choose them.

Definitly Sabian. I have a Zildijian ZBT Crash and a Paiste 502 Splash and both are cracked bad and sound terrible. On the other hand, my churche's drummer let me borrow his Sabian AA and AAX Crashes, and they are extremely awesome. In fact, I'm about to buy a Sabian AA Sound Control Crash and a Sabian AAX Splash. Sabian is definitly the best. Period.
