You may want to stay with Maple or Birch for those styles. They will give you a little more punch. Also once you see the finish on the MHX you will not really want to kick the crap out of them playing metal.

If you do go with the MHX I recommend checking out Aquarian Heads.

Thanks for replying to my post.
What type of music would MHX be ideal for?
I know that they are very beautiful and I don't play metal that often, I just wanted to know if they were versatile enough for all
types of music. Have you played MHX very much and how do the
Aquairen heads differ in sound to Remo Ambassadors or Evans?

I apologize for any spelling or punctuation errors.

Thanks again

I use my MHX playing blues. They seem to be best suited (In my humble opinion) for Blues/Jazz because they have a warmer, more round tone than Maple or Birch drums.

As far as Aquarian Heads They have a range that rivals Remo (very similar) but, they have (again in my humble opinion) Much better Quality control.

If you want to hear what they sound like you can go to my website. www.onemoremile.com

THANKS!
We worked very hard on the new CD.
I don't have a scanner(or for that matter a printer) but I will try to get the webmaster of my site to post a few pics of my kit.

My kit consists of ...
Pearl (fancy that) MHX 16x20 kick w/May audio technica ATM 25 mic, 9x12 tom, 14x16 tom w/ legs, Sensitone 5x14 nickel over brass w/ tube lugs( GOD this is a great snare!! Why aren't you guys at Pearl marketing this drum more??)
3x13 Maple pic snare (left side), pearl hardware, Audio Technica mics on the toms, Shure sm57 on the snares, K Zildjian cymbals, Humes & Berg and SKB cases, Aquarian Heads, Trueline sticks, Moon-gel pads on the drums... Oh, and I wear Timberland shoes...;)
I also used a couple of Fibes snare drums on the CD . If you listen close you can hear the deep Maple CRACK on a couple of tunes.

...I'm sorry,I got on a roll there.

I use my MHX for Rock, Jazz, Swing, Latin, and Funk. When I want a sharp cutting sound I use Evans clear G2's. If I want a more of a melodic smooth sound I use Evans coated G2's. I like to switch between the Aquarian Superkick 1 and the Evans EMAD for my bass drum.
