Seen the name in product reviews on Modern Drummer and/or in Drum magazines. However, never inquired about them. I checked the web and they have a site, www.bauerpercussion.com.br. Based on the address on the site, I think they are from Brazil. They sell everything from congas to snares.

The site is kind of heavy with flash thing and could stay with the site that took so long to download.

Just in case, I tend to categorize companies in three categories

a - Custom (Exotic)/Boutique
b- Mass produced/Reliable Source
c- Lower

Custom will be a company that does not mass produce and do not have a wide distribution. There I put companies like Timba, JCR Percussion, Del Sol, etc. Their instruments tend to be expensive because they are hand made, made of exotic or expensive materials and not made in big quantities. Example, JCR is a workshop and their distribution is very limited to certain areas. Usually, they make the instruments you order directly to them on the "spot" .

Mass produce are your regulars like Pearl, LP, Toca, Meinl, Remo, etc. Wide distribution, variety of styles in the instruments, priced with the market, good qualiity of materials and with a good network for parts or info

Lower are the cheap alternatives out there. For example here in Puerto Rico you find companies like Schalloch, Latin Fire, Mano, Typhoon, etc. Some of the mass production companies make instruments in this price labeled as beginner's. These instruments are of lower quality and not the best ones but offer a altenative for those in a budget.

Example in the prices:

JCR Timbales - $475 plus
Pearl MQ - $360
Schallock Timbales - $175 (they are not even comparable with the other two).

Where does Bauer fit? I have a feeling they are somewhere in the two first categories.

What are you checking with them?

Saludos!

The reason for asking is that a friend of mine who used to play with the band "MALO" was telling me he was given a few of their products to try and he thought they weren't too bad. I went on to the web and they have a sound sample and the bongos sounded pretty fair for the price. he was given the congas and a set of timbs.
