Congrats on coming back to drumming, and Pearl. BRX is a very very nice kit...you'll be extremely happy...yeah, sometimes Pearl could be a very long wait, but it could be shorter than what they say. I just ordered a bass drum two weeks ago, and they told me not till August! Surprisingly though, it showed up two days ago! You never know...good luck man!

Thanks a lot. I'll certainly post as soon as I get the whole thing in. And I do indeed feel like a little kid. Now I'm spending my spare time practicing and trying to get what I think is a good sound out of my drums!
Any tips on getting up to speed fast? I'm also teaching my two oldest kids beginning drumming which helps me remember faster.

Paradiddle's. To get fast, start slow. The speed will come.

Well, i must confess, it's only on the snare. I haven't got the full set in yet. When i do i'll start working the overall set. But i was pleased as it has been quite a while since I've even played a snare.
Drumming is all about having fun! Keep it fun! Its so easy to get frustrated when you hit a slow point. Just remember, its all about having fun and progressing. Overe the course of time, I'm sure you'll do just fine. Tape or video tape yourself. Then watch it every 6 months. You'll be amazed. The progress is kind of like watching your kids grow. You don't notice the every day little changes. But when relatives come over who haven't seen them in awhile are amazed at how much they've grown.

Smart choice on the BRX, you'll be suprised how powerful those little rack toms are (I have the same size/series.)
Welcome!

Things sure have changed in the last 15 years that I've not been drumming. New terms. New rudiments? where did they come up with 40. I thought there were only 26. And I'm rusty playing. At least I remember the 26.
26 rudiments? 40 rudiments??......... What's a rudiment??? :D

I’m 48, and had been away from drums for about 13 years. I had played in various groups around the Detroit area in the 70’s and 80’s when live music was very popular. During the past several years my interest has rekindled (my playing has improved a bit too I think) and I purchased a new 9 pc double base BRX set in Opal white in Feb 2003. Very nice drum set! Yes, I had to wait 5 months for them because they are not a “stock” color any more.
You are right, terms have changed a bit. Kids and others call them drum kits, older folk’s call them drum sets.
I always thought that “kits” were a group of items necessary to build something. The drums are already built when you get them. I call them sets!
Anyway, good luck and enjoy your new set when they come in!

A friend of mine is a (I guess you could call him a groupie) for Grand Funk. He knows Don Brewer quite well and has asked me to go with him when they play in the area again. I've never heard them live, but enjoy their music.
I have met Alan White (Yes) before though -----real nice guy, and awsome player!
