1) not really - they will hit things for you (drums, cymbals etc) in the shop, but generally won't let customers test stuff themselves. The shop doesn't really have space to properly set up mutliple kits so that you could sit at them anyway. Basically, you ask them what you wany to hear and they'll play it for you - saves damage to the goods. With cymbals, it avoids them being handled too (the staff use gloves). It's the same for most UK shops I've been in (except PMT in Southend)

3) Rhythm magazine is quite hard to find and is usually only available in larger WH Smiths stores and Borders - I've not found it anywhere else.
