the sizes sound right. get some clear, double-ply heads (emperors, G2's, etc.) and tune then kinda loose. that should give u the sound your lookin for.

tuning them loose? how loose do you mean? i dont really want much "ring" either.

Put some pinstripes on there. Tuning them loose means tighten them a little past wrinkle-stage, then tighten enough just to get the tom sound you want.

evans hydraulics series will give you that fat grohl sound tuning loose means only tune them until the wrinkles are kinda out of the head... but with hydraulics, they sound fat and thick no matter how you tune them.. the only head that actually uses oil in between the two plys... remo pinstripes do not have oil in them

pinstripes, instead of oil, have a dampening ring inbetween the plies. they sound the same as hydraulics.

where the pinstripe is on the pin stripes, is where the two plies start to join... the dampening ring on the pinstripes is that funky/hazy looking part of the head itself... hydraulics, are two ply right through

Thanks for your help i thought it might have been hydrallics or pinstripes, i was gonna buy pinstripes but now you've got me in a bind, for the best, deep, fat grohl sound which is best, Pinstripes or hydrallics??

I would go with pinstripes because they are not as severe as hydras. If you need a deader sound than what the pins provide you can always muffle them more. That way you have a pretty versatile set of heads no matter what.

i wanted the same sound and got it with the hydrolics i tuned them moderatley low but not "just above the wrinkle"

Be sure to seat the head good – do this by tuning the drum – then press firmly in the center with the palm of your hands – do this until the pitch holds.

You might want to try a coated 2-ply head – it will be a bit darker and a little fatter.
