I just got a ZXT 20" contol ride. 2 days ago yay yay.
It sounds good, I was hoping for something more pingy but wutever, I got more than I paid for $113. Its really high pitched and ugly sounding when I have it screwed tight to the stand but when its lose its sounds really good.

22" Zildjian Ping Ride
Listen to a Rush CD to hear what it sounds like. It's the same one Neil Peart uses and the best one I've ever tried.

21" Zildjian Rock Ride
Great bell sound, great playability (if that's a word), and excellent projection.
Paiste 2002 Power Bell Ride - Sexy!!!! This ride is pingy, you can crash it, it's got a really percussive bell, and it cuts very well!

What kinda music do you play with your Ride (and other cymbals)? I totally despise the 21" A Rock Ride. It had way to many overtones and was not at all articulate. I would rather play a ZXT or Camber.

I got an old 22" Zildjian ride that sorta sounds like a ping but it's waaaay too old to know what type it really is since the laquer and markings vanished long before I was born (still got the stamp though, that's how I know it's Zildjian). Nice, loud and heavy and it would sound much better if I could get the damn thing as clean as the other cymbals. The Autosol only did half the job. It's an improvement but it can get much cleaner.
I need a REAL heavy-duty cleaner that could get in all the grooves with minimal scrubbing (c'mon, 22"!!!), any suggestions?

I play just about everything: hard rock, soft rock, ballads, I used to play jazz some, pop....I just like my rides with some overtones. I really fell in love with the bell though. I can't describe it, it's just sweet and it really suits my needs. I think it's very articulate. I can control the sound and feel by just changing the sticks, the strike point, the angle, the force, etc. Maybe it's the woman's touch or something. :D

OD--
You have to be careful cleaning cymbal--there are sooooo many horror stories out there.
I've heard Wright's Copper cream does the job safely, and it seems I've read that here in this forum as well as a couple others.
Hope it works for you.

Try Trick cymbal polish. It cuts through varnish and the like pretty well. Depending on how bad it is, you might need to use it a few times instead of trying to get everything in one setting. Whatever you use, try using some under the bell first to test what effect it will have on the cymbal.

I have a 21" A Zildjian rockride too. I got it for $100 used but it was only used for like a month. It was a good upgrade from my B8 ride. It does have a lot of overtones but is versitale. I like the 20" a custom medium ride so hopefully i can get that soon.
My friend has a 24" 1980 Z custom ride. It is really cool. It has a lot of"ping". It was from the first year they made Z customs. He is actually trying to sell it if anyone is interested cause its too heavy. He had to use a heavy duty tama stand with a weight on it.

I got a 20" Zildjian A Custom Ride. Got it used for 90 bucks. It was in very nice condition. No dings, or dents or surface scratches.
I also have a 20" Zildjian "Platinum" ride. Very heavy sound, and very dry. It does have an amazing 'bell' sound on it. It also has a very quick decay, kind of like an 'earth ride'.

I have a Zildjian 20" A medium ride that sounds awesome, I choose it over a 21" Sweet ride, actually.
I have a 22" Paiste 2002 ride........I've changed crashes n hihats over the years, but never found anything I like better than this ride. I also have a Zildjian 22"-one of those old ones with the stamp on it, which is way too wishy washy, and has been leaning against the basement wall for about 11 years now. (It came with my 1st kit, I just cant part with it)

22" Platinum Ping Ride.. YEAHH!! i like it, really, before when i was still a huge big travis barker fan (note the before) i really wanted to crash my ride, so i was planning to buy a 20" crash/ride, but then, i liked my ping ride better, dunno why and dunno how.. just like it, then i began to love it, i was so lucky that in the late 00' my store had a old stock of a platinum ping ride, and since it was platinum i got it, hehe

20" A-custom Ping on the right.
20" A-custom Flat Top on the left.(For the cool Beauford-ish HH/Ride combinations)
Also have an old K Jazz Ride for necessary gigs. (Sounds sweeeet with the Vic Firth American Jazz AJ6's)

20" B8 with lots of tape. I tried lots and lots of rides and this is the only one I could find that sounds the same as a Zildgian I had twenty years ago. The thing had more overtones and wash than you could imagine but some carefull taping and voila, the best sound you could ask for. Dirt cheap too.

Well I have 4 different rides that I use depending upon the circumstance & music I'm playing.
Currently on my kit I'm using a Sabian Rod Morgenstein signature ride (21", brilliant finish). It is unlathed from about halfway up the shoulder & over the bell & is lathed from the halfway point out to the edge. I get a real nice defined ping on the unlathed portion & a decent wash on the lathed portion. It has a really strong, nice sounding bell. It has a nice warm supporting undertone that doesn't build too much unless you really start to wail on it. It is really easy to control... A really versatile cymbal that can be applied in many different settings. Right now, this one is my favorite!
"On the bench:"
Sabian HH Rock Ride (20", brilliant finish) - Heavy stick definition (strong ping sound) & a strong bell. Really LOUD cymbal. Virtually no wash to speak of, but it creates a really low undertone that nicely supports the ping. Best for loud rock & metal.
A Zildjian 20" Medium Ride (traditional finish) - Lots of dark tone & wash on this one. Sounds almost like a K... Not an incredible amount of stick definition. Decent fairly strong bell - best for jazz & light rock.
A Zildjian 18" Medium Ride (traditional finish) - Very washy with not an incredible amount of ping. The bell on this one is pretty weak actually. When I use this one, I usually have to set up a second ride that has a really strong, defined bell. Good for jazz & small, acoustic situations - great for low volume stuff.
There you have it. My ride collection & opinions of all of them.
I eventually would like to add a very dark 21" or 22" K, an HHX Evolution Ride, and maybe a really dry Earth ride or something like that.
In my opinion, you can never have too many cymbals to choose from... ;)

I use almost all of my cymbals as rides from time to time, even my splashes... but the ones I use most are:
20" K Custom Ride - Full bodied, great bell. A decent amount of tone, really a good balance of bright and dark. Nice definition without being too "pingy".
20" A Custom Flat Ride - Absolutely gorgeous! Very glassy, shimmering and almost... quiet. Sometimes I attach a small beaded chain for a little sizzle. This is by far my favorite ride!
17" and 18" K Custom Dark Crashes - I ride on these a lot. They are very dark and warm... lots of undertones, yet they still have decent definition. When played loudly, they have a great wash and spread. Especially the 18".

I have a 21" A custom medium ride. I tried every ride in the drum shop and I liked this one the best. I hope to get a 20" A custom flat ride some time in the future.

I tried out a 20 inch Zcustom Power ride today, and I really liked it a lot. Very loud cutting ping sound with great stick definition, and very minimal overtones. I think this might be the one I'm getting.

Mine is a Sabian B8 Medium Ride. Its ok for a beginner's cymbal. I need to replace it soon. I'm saving for a 21" AA Rock Ride (or something similar).

Istanbul Agop Custom Turk 22 Ride
Excellent, selective projection. Dynamic stick response with minimum overtones...This baby is great darkly sounding ride. Bell sounds very deeply and darker than rest of cymbal...Crashy attack creates awesome "roarrin' " sound...
Take a look here:
http://www.pearldrummersforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48926
I used to play also on Meinl Raker Medium 20' Ride
This ride was great to loud music, with fantastic projection behind distorted guitars and especially: loud, bright bell...Due to too many overtones, and changin of played music style i've decided to change it to istanbul.

Sabian AAX 20" Stage Ride. Nice wash, nice bell (wish it were just a TAD bit louder, but still good), no complaints.

I am using an older Zildjian Z Custom Light Power Ride 20"...much to my surprise it is very pingy, and has nice control...I expected a BIG overkill sound from this baby...but the more it ages- the better it plays...
It cuts thru the music with-out a mic on it...nice! :-)
20" A Custom Projection Ride: Kickass.

I've got an A Sweet Ride; the name says it all. It has tons of wash and is excellent for crash-riding. Next I'm getting either a HH Rock Ride or HH Power Bell Ride so I can also have a more pingy ride.

I only have a 20" Zildjian Avedis ping ride. its a really good one with a nice clear ping, and a good cup sound.
But I want to buy a good heavy ride to.
What do you guys suggest?

Rude power ride- Fairly bright, metallic, raw, full, energetic, cutting. Fairly narrow range, complex mix. Heavy feel, strong, loud ping over controlled, raw, full wash, piercing, loud bell. ;)

I use a 20" Zildjian Edge Solid Rock Ride.
I also have a 20" Paiste Colorsound ride (blue color).

I own a 20" Zildjian A Ping ride. The best ride that I've ever played. It is pingy, but still has some wash, but not much. Just enough wash to make it sound full, unlike the Sabian HH Raw-bell dry ride... (Was not impressed by it....)

I have a 20" Sabian AA Medium Ride. Its quite washy but as you move closer to the bell it gets dryer. The bell is medium sized for an overall very versatile ride. My next ride is going to be a 22" Sabian AA Metal-X Ride with uber ping and a kick *** bell.

Paiste Signature 20" Signature Dry Heavy Ride. Nice ping, dark undertones and wash that never gets out of control, great bell. I'd love to try the 21" model, but I'm happy with my 20"er.
I'm thinking about a lighter ride, like a Sig. Silver Mellow or a Dry Crisp Ride to add for a 2nd ride.

I play a 20" AAX stage ride. Its very versatile, with more definition as you head up towards the bell. I want a 22" HH power bell ride and a 21" AAX metal ride also.
