I was wondering if anyone has had the oppertunity to use the new and very inexpensive hand drums offered by Remo? Sound Shapes. I'm sure for the price they can't be all that but I have not had the chance to hear them. Now that I have been going to some drum circles and use bongos or a conga drum that belongs to a friend I thought this might be a very inexpensive way to partisapate. What do they sound like? Any comments?
Thanks, Rich.

Hi Rich, consider them as mini-rototoms. Quite some attack & the sound produced by the head. I use them for leading large DrumCircle groups.
Each leader of a group gets a different sound shape. By raising a particular sound shape each group can notify what they have to play. Works great.;)

Hi - I just took delivery of a box of 30 of these this morning for use in schools and other percussion groups. Their sound is nice and crisp, and they are a huge hit with my children (maybe not my neighbours though ;) ).

Can anyone explain the difference in the beaters - which of the sound shapes do I use the ball beaters with - the largest?

yah I got one when I got some cymbals...I use it more than I use the china I bought that day. --well I used to till I bought the turkish drum last week.....same highs but with the nice low end.
but yeah the sound shapes are really good, inexpensive, and can be carried to any gig.
two thumbs up.
