Hi,

I'm currently listening to a CD of one of my all-time favorite drummers - Greg Bissonette. Its his first album that he put out a few years ago. I just love his playing and his ability to groove. In 1998, it was after listening to this CD for the first time that I knew my next drumset would be Pearl with 6-ply Maple shells. He's playing Pearl MLX on this album, which are similar to today's MRX. The drums are beautifully recorded; not compressed and over-processed like so many pop and rock recordings. So, if any of you want to get a really good idea of what MRX/Session drums sound like, or you just want to hear one of the most versatile drummers out there, this is the album to listen to:

So, what's your favorite Pearl drummer/drums recording?

Personally, I've always enjoyed the sound of Mr. Scott Rockenfield from Queensryche. In particular his work on the songs "Silent Lucidity", and "Jet City Woman". I've heard a many good reviews on the side project he has done with Paul Speer entitled 'Hells Canyon', but I have yet to hear it myself.

Good day to you.

my favorite Pearl drum artist was, still is and will ever be the one and only,

Mr. Jeff Porcaro. (1954-1992)

Need i say more, guys???

I got a lot of Jeff-Top-10 Songs, the best one with a Pearl kit is "Jake To The Bone" from 1992īs "Kingdom Of Desire". Ok, if you are familiar with the album you may say itīs overproduced, but "Jake To The Bone" is ONE TAKE. No overdubs, no remixing or editing, only minor things, but Jeff and Steve (Lukather) always said the song is a result of a morning jam session in the studio!!! Unbelievable. I like all the stuff he did with Toto and some other Artists.

Jeff is the all-time drumhero!!! Letīs not forget him!!!

Cheers,

Oliver

i was fortunate enough to meet Gregg Bissonette at the Drums & Sounds Festival this year in Koblenz, Germany. He is such a nice guy. Always fantastic to talk to him. I like his work on "No Substitution" with Larry Carlton and Steve Lukather. He really rules on this one. Very special recording. He plays Mapex on that one, what a pitty thatīs its not a pearl one.

Anyway, i have pre-listened to Dennis Chambers CD "Outbreak" today, especially the song "Roll Call" and, wow, this one grooves a lot! What an outstanding performances. Since then, this recording is in my Top-10-Pearl Recordings. Great! Has anybody listened to it before?

One word to Jeff: Unfortunately, i didnīt heard the name Jeff Porcaro around the time he died, but soon after it, i became a Jeff fan. What a shame that the pearl guys here do not have a "Jeff Tribute Page" here. Maybe we can arrange something...:-))

Cheers,

Oliver

Ok PADman, here we go. This is my first pic for today. I like that one. If anyone has previously unseen Jeff Pics i.e. Concert, Studio etc, feel free to post them here. Maybe a Pearl official can arrange to make a seperate "Jeff Tribute" directory here. Would be great. :-)

We miss you Jeff!!!

My all time favorite Pearl artist has to be the all time greatest living drummer right now DENNIS CHAMBERS!

The greatest recording of his drums, and in my opinion the greatest drum recording of all time is contained on the Gary Willis album "BENT"

Best. Peal Masters Recording. Ever.

Hey Oliver, I have Outbreak and it's a nice change from all the Prog/Fusion stuff i've been listening to. As a matter of fact I'm on a big Dennis Chambers Kick lately. I just picked up, 3 John Scofield CD's that feature Dennis, Slo Sco, Loud Jazz and a Live CD. If you want to check out some wild stuff by Dennis check out the CAB CD'S CAB1, CAB2 & CAB4. Check out the tune CAB on CAB1 and listen to the snare groove he plays on the whole tune, just simply fantastic!

I guess my favorite Pearl drummers vary,

Dennis Chambers
Jerry GAskill
Virgil Donati
Eric Singer
Bobby Jarzombek

But the best drum sound recording I have ever heard has to be
Simon Phillips - Out of The Blue. Live in Europe.
This is a live recording of Simon's Symbosis band.

Aperciva-totally agree with you on the eric & Bruce thing.

My favorite Pearl recording, although honestly I dont know if he used pearl in the studio, is the drum sound on Black Sabbaths "Seventh Star" album, with Mr. Eric Singer on drums.

Eric Singer is amazing and doesn't always get the credit he deserves as a 'first call hired gun' type drummer that he truly is. I first saw him back in 1987 with Gary Moore (ex-Thin Lizzy fame) and he played his butt off. I agree with you regarding his
work on Seventh Star. Take care!

DRUMBOO - I don't recall the kit Eric used when I saw him in 1987
with Gary Moore, but it was a black db Pearl kit. Two kicks, two toms and two floors. He is amazing. Do you do a lot of work with Eric? Love your DRUMBOO webpage and your Eric (German) one.

Good to hear. I used to go to the US site often in the early 90s when he played his first time with KISS. That site is soooo
outdated, good to hear you'll be keeping the equipment section up.

my favorite drummer is gonna have to be Dennis Chambers. For all who don't know, Dennis is in a band called Niacin. They're amazing. I got to see a clinic that they did at Berklee College of Music in Boston. it was AMAZING. He uses Pearl BRX.

I was at my local Guitar center on saturday and they were showing a video of a live solo preformace of Chad Wackerman with Terry Bozzio playing a duet. I think it was a PASIC preformance or namm or something, but they playing was unbelieveable. Pure video inspiration. I went home to play my set that afternoon, and cranked out some stuff I didn't know I was capable of playing. For me, I get the best inspiration and practice from watching other drummers. I watch their arm movements and mannerisims while they play, and I can use that with my own playing. Damn I need to get more drum DVD's and videos.

PS. Bozzio and Wackerman are my 2 favorite Zappa drummers.

Well I'll say that Chad Smith is one cool mofo. May not be "the best" but I always enjoy watching him play, and he is great at what he does......he also plays some bad *** kits.....great taste in colors.
