Im having trouble picking out which kind of china cymbal I want. I havent heard many so thats why im asking for help. I have hear a 16" paiste signature series china which is nice. I have heard two zildjians and two sabians but i cant make up my mind. And Im not really sure which is the best for me. I play hard rock sorta like tool korn godsmack and System of a down. I beat the crap out of my cymbals so i need durable cymbals. I dont just need a china either i need brand new cymbals for my brand new Pearl Export Select drumset. So please give me some advice for good cymbals with reasonable prices. Thanks:D

I haven't heard to many sabian or paste, but i think that for the type of music u play, u should try Zildjian Z Customs
well that's my opinion :D

I just spent two days driving around to most of the drum shops in Toronto shopping for a china to replace my 18" Sabian AAX Studio China that I find sounds like too much like a gong and sustains waaay too long (came in a kit). I went looking for thin/trashy sound that would decay quickly. Went through the Sabian Hand Hammered, HHX, AAX Xtreem, AA Fast Chinese, AA Fast Chinese before deciding to go with a 16" AAX Chinese.

I tried the Paiste's and Zildjian Oriental Trash as well as their mini-china's but was happiest with the Sabian.

I think this can be quite a tricky one; I'm after a china too, but am having problems finding something I like; I'm after something with as little sustain as possible, that's not too loud as I mostly play at low volumes (my church is just too small!). I'm thinking probably that a mini-china (either 12" or 14") may do it, but don't know...
The best sound I've found so far was the Sabian Max-Stax (mini-china on splash) - but they were very pricey!
Any suggestions...?

Wuhan makes an authentic sounding China and they are quite inexpensive.

If you're into all that crazy nu-mettle stuff maybe the Paiste RUDE cymbals would be a good choice? I have a few and they're VERY durable, very loud, and cut right through LOUD music. They can be expensive but try eBay or something??? As for china cymbals I LOVE my Zildjian 16" Oriental China Trash- it's loud for such a small cymbal and even when it gets dented and bent (even a small crack!) it's still loud and trashy.

be careful, the one zildjian china i've owned (16" A China Low) cracked in a couple months. in hindsight, it was probably because i was hitting it wrong.

Chinas are the hardest cymbals for me to pick. I like them ultra trashy with quick decay. The Zildjian China Trash cymbals alomst give me the sound I want, but the Wuhans really do it for me.

I'm sure the Rancan Lion is pretty similar, but the store near me had the Wuhans.. I have a 12 and a 16. My 12 is occasionally stacked, cause I'm crazy like that. But the 16 is my baby...

A junker 15" crash that I have. Sounds pretty wild...

I play an 18" Paiste Signature Heavy China. It's great but on the bright side for a China. I've always loved the 19" K Zildjian Dark China also.

I'm also impressed with the Wuhans. Compared to my Paiste, they are real trashy, inexpensive and expendable. The downside to the Wuhans is that the larger you go in size, the more you have to sort through them to find one that sounds good.

i have a sabian 18" pro china that sounds very very nice. you can pick one up at midwestpercussion.com for less than 100 dollars. I'm not suggesting you compare the Pro china to these Z customs and China Boy's, but if Sabian is making good chinas at the Pro Series, then they'll probably only get better as you get up in the AA's and HH's (of course they'll cost a little more...)

I am a big fan of Wuhan Chinas. I'm getting ready to purchase both a 12" and a 18" Wuhan China for my new Export Select ELX. They are lightning fast when it comes to decay, and they sound very good. They have a slight "gong" decay to them, but that shouldn't be a problem if you play in a rock setting or even a loud setting period. The best part about the Wuhans is that I can buy both the 12" and 18" at Guitar Center for a little under $75.00. I honestly just don't see how you can go wrong. Those who haven't heard Wuhans......at least go check them out before you make a decision.

I second Padman's choice of the Wuhan. Very quick and fast. My other main china is a 16 A Zildjian China High, and find that each are good in their own way, but the Wuhan is def. much more oriental and rapid.

I've now owned that Sabian 16" AAX China for a week now and I'm in love with the damn thing. Everything I play now gets a truck full of China accents.

My view on China's is the cheaper the better..Why would you go out and blow 200 bucks on something thats "suppose" to sound like a trash can lid..?? DAH..wake up..

I'll tell you the best kept secret on those..Try a Pearl PC320CT China..It LIST for $79.00!! -and its sounds as good as my Zildjian 18" Trash China, which by the way I SOLD..

A Pearl China cymbal huh? I've never played a Pearl cymbal. How are they on durability? I'm pretty rough on cymbals (especially China's), and I'm just curious as to how they hold up. Looks like I'll have to track down one and see how's I like it before I make my final decision. I agree though.......why pay $200.00 on something that you want to sound like trash? Haha.........I couldn't have put it better myself.

Please folks, if you play with a loud China or Swish cymbal, wear hearing protection. I had to stop using my oriental type cymbals because the 'white noise' they produced gave me tinnitus (ringing in the ears). No trash can lid is worth ruining your hearing over. :(

I am playing a 16" Zildjian ZXT right now. It's been under a year and it's pretty dinged up. It's not really the sound I wanted but I rushed into getting a China. I'd like to hear more opinions on China's too. I didn't think the Wuhan's were worth anything but you guys are making me think about it. I thought they were just a cheap no-name brand. More input would be awesome.

Probably one of the most beautiful cymbals I have ever heard was the 18" Paiste 2oo2 Novo China.

gotta question...I have always played my chinas inverted. so im hitting the curved edge. I have seem my moms drummer play with it the other way round.

what is the exact difference? is playing the china inverted the best way? or is it just A way?

What do you guys prefer?

oh yeah, im purchasing 18" AA Chinese and a 20" AA Chinese - they really do kick ***...the HH are a bit too dark?(i think that might be the word :) )

@ PRIMETIMEDRMMER30: i use a wuhan china .. sounds really trashy and costs almost nothing. Keep in mind that these cymbals are handmade so every cymbal souds diffrent. Go to a dealer who has a big stock so you can here a couple of cymbals before choosing.

@ Suikoden: inverted ? do you mean edge up or edge down. I think the difference is not in the sound. But like all cymbals ... if you play them edge up there more likely to crack sooner. And if you play them edge up stickwear is much greater.

Atached is a pick how i mount my china :D
