Remo's new "Tuff Enuff" finish is good looking but the material of the congas are not the best: Remo's own Accousticon that is actually not plies of "natural" wood but like a compound or mix that they made plies of it and construct the conga. Yes, they come with their own NuSkyn but still not the best choice in my opinion...
The standard wood for congas are oak. They tend to be durable, strong material and provide good projection. I still recommend Pearl Elites, made of oak, for the quality and the price.
If fiberglass that are mainly for volume...Bobby Allende's new Pearl signature series are pretty good and the pricing is much better than LP's . Great color too! Bobby's congas come with Remo Fyberskins that I prefer better than Remo's NuSkyn or Evans own synthetic conga head. (I do not think Remo makes fiberglass...). Pearl Elite in fiberglass also provide an alternative for less the price of the Bobby's. (I'll get the Bobby's....they look pretty good and sound great)!
