I was wondering if pearl makes octobans, like tama's octobans. I saw one of pearls drumsets at the namm show posted on this site, and the kit had octobans setup with it. I would really like to purchase a set from them. if they don't make any (even if they are unavailable for custom order), then can anyone suggest something that would give me a higher sound than an 8" tom.
thanks, bongocity.

Pearl call them quarter toms, they are made from aliminum.
Yes, the concept (pitch altered by depth, not diameter) is the same.
All are 6" in diameter and the shells are made of aluminum. 4 depths are available: 12", 15", 18", and 21". Sorry, but it's not possible to order other depths.

Wow! I've never seen a pearl rack like that. it looks like they just took a part the icon rack and set it up differently. it looks cool but i don't know if i could reach those toms up there.

Just a bit of personal testimony regarding Pearl's Quarter Toms... I own the 12" & 15" deep ones & I absolutely love them. I will be adding the 18" & 21" hopefully before the end of the year. Theyr'e definitely worth having if you can apply them effectively in the music you're playing. And they look cool to boot!
Many people (including dealers) don't even know that Pearl makes such a thing. I wonder why the company doesn't market the QTs a little more aggressively...
Other than the fact that they're only available in 4 depths, the only other limitation is that they're only available in Arctic White or Piano Black colors. I don't know if Pearl would consider custom finishes on them... Would be kind of cool if they would!
Not trying to be a jerk, but if you wanted a different length, couldn't you just buy the 21" quarter tom and get it cut at an automotive shop? And while you were ther, couldn't you get them paint any color you wanted?

I guess you could do that... Or you could just buy the PEACE octobans which are aluminum shells, like the QTs, & come in 8 different lengths. Rumor has it that they are manufactured in the same Taiwanese factory as the QTs and are exactly the same construction. They have Pearl compatible hardware & I have seen them in custom colors. I don't know if the custom colors were applied after the fact, or if they were ordered that way, but they looked awesome...
Having a shell cut & refinished would probably be a pretty expensive ordeal... If it comes out right.
I don't think you're being a jerk. It could be a valid solution if you were dead set on having the ones made by Pearl.

Does anyone know if you can get the Peace ones in different colors? Or where I could get them? Their website doesn't mention it. And I do not have any Peace dealers in Orlando, FL.

Drummer1,
Give Drums N Moore a call. They are over on Red Bug Lake Rd. & I know they used to carry PEACE drums. They deal with mostly vintage stuff, but I know that they had some new stuff by PEACE the last time I was in there. It has been quite a while since I went into their shop though... They could probably give you some direction as to who to contact to find out what you need to know.
Also, I believe AJ's Pro Percussion in Tampa may deal with PEACE some. It would be worth a call over there to see if they do...
I have seen the PEACE octs in different custom colors, but once again, I don't know if they were ordered from the factory that way or if they were done after the fact.
