Our double headed Batas are based upon ancient designs used by the West African Yoruba people who brought their Sound to Cuba, and it has since spread to Miami and is gaining popularity here in U.S. cities plus the rest of the world.
Offering a deep traditional sound sought after by many modern percussionist the PBA-50 Oconcolo (small), PBA-60 Itotele (medium) and PBA-70 Iya (large) use shells crafted from 100% Thai Oak for increased projection and resonance. All feature traditional style rims and Buffalo heads to provide the warmth, comfort and playing durability needed in today's musical applications.
These prized ceremonial drums also feature chrome plated conga style tuning brackets with extra strength claws providing easy an accurate tuning.
For those unfamiliar with the sound of Bata drums the smaller head sounds similar to a Bongo, while the larger head has a Djembe type sound relative to each. Each side of the drum is played together to create end less rhythmic patterns. Traditionally the Bata player will also play the set of three at once.
Pearl Elite Batas feature a stunning high gloss natural finish and may be purchased individually.
