Did Dave Grohl use a double bass pedal? I just listened to Negative Creep, and I could've sworn I heard a double bass groove throughout the tune.

I've read a few interviews with Grohl saying he never does double bass because he was never any good at it (amen!). Chances are, it's interplay between the bass drum and floor tom. He does do that somewhat frequently.

You're either having auditory hallucinations, or your stereo is broken.

Wait, are you listening to the album version of Negative Creep? The Bleach version of Negative Creep was done by Chad Channing, who used a double pedal (heard in many songs throughout the album).

If it's a version with Grohl playing, then he used his 18" floor tom to give the illusion of a double pedal. Dave doesn't use a double 'cause he says he's no good at it.

That. Also Dale Crover of The Melvins did some of the tracks on Bleach, and he is big on double bass.

Yes I listened to the Bleach version. You can hear slight double grooves that would be a challenge to do with one foot. I could see it being done as a floor tom roll if he wasn't crashing.

Chad Channing did all the tracks except Floyd the Barber, Downer, and Paper Cuts, which were done by Dale Crover. I got curious and looked it up.

Edit: And the producer of Bleach Jack Endino was in Skin Yard with Matt Cameron, drummer from Soundgarden. Just random trivia.

I never knew that!! I've been into Nirvana and The Melvins for near enough 20 years, and did not know Dale played on those tracks. That's the most exciting thing I've ever heard.

I would suggest reading Nirvana by Everett Green to all in this thread.
Dave Grohl is not know for using double pedal, but he did use it at one point, albeit a short time in his very early days that were post-Scream.
Recording-wise, never touched it.

Sounds twice as good as a double pedal to me.

Cannibal,

Thanks for posting the thread. It is great to pick up some new info that might never have bubbled to the surface or might have been overlooked otherwise.

Remember there are no stupid posts, just stupid posters. :p:D

Parts like this are a big part of why I love Dave.

And he does that better than most people can use a double pedal.
